The healthcare reform bill that emerges from Congress this year will include a government-run public health insurance option, regardless of the bipartisan negotiations seeking a compromise in the Senate, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Sunday.
"Make no mistake about it, the president is for this strongly. There will be a public option in the final bill," Schumer said on CBS News’s "Face the Nation."

Good Morning BCers.
Today, my news tracking will include Honduras, more on McNair and events in Afghanistan. Have a great Monday….
July 6, 2009 at 6:12 am
Steve ,
Let me help you with that.
McNair- He was murdered.
Afghanistan-People who live in dirt homes were bombed into oblivion by billion dollar drone planes for profit.
There, now you can spend you’re day being more productive.
July 6, 2009 at 7:02 am
he probably does more before dawn than you do all day, jerk.
July 6, 2009 at 7:07 am
Someone needs to take their meds.
AI- your grammar and spelling is improving. Keep up the good work.
July 6, 2009 at 7:22 am
Since I’ve come to these boards I’ve been called a shill,a conspiracy theorist,a right winger, and now just a plain old jerk. The intellect level runneth over here on the BCB.
All I was doing was being a little sarcastic. Was what I said wrong?
I’m med free thank you ,I wonder if you two can say the same?
July 6, 2009 at 7:34 am
If you dont like it here why do you come back?
I already know what a rude person you are. I question your sanity as well.
Why dont you do something productive like keep Agents Smith and Jones off your lawn with their GPS system?
I have no idea why anyone would come on here and write something like that.
July 6, 2009 at 7:35 am
…and you are very much a jerk…just like the day I was the first person to welcome you here and you got smart with me, and then i tried to ignore you.
You ought to be ashamed of yourself, you rude creep.
July 6, 2009 at 7:39 am
at least my meds appear to be working… i am trying to figure you out. at first i thought you were an ok person with no social skills. now i know you’re just an asshole. i wont be addressing you any more.
July 6, 2009 at 7:49 am
Honduras update
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/05/AR2009070502738.html
includes a decent summary of last two weeks.
July 6, 2009 at 7:58 am
Bird, you never addressed me until today.Your right, your meds are working perfectly, the dummbing down process is complete.
Steve, the only thing I’ll address with you is the fact that you are insinuating that I’m not telling the truth about the census GPS’ing in my driveway. I even provided a link to show it’s happening. Thats why I said it,because it happened. You being in denial dosn’t mean it’s not real.
The points I’ve brought up have all had direct effects on you and I as Americans. Yet you decide to focus on useless fodder such as Palin, Honduras, and now McNair. Instead of commenting on anything I’ve said you focus on my grammar? I can take constructive criticism, tell me why I’m wrong, educate me instead of being a wise ass about grammar.
July 6, 2009 at 8:02 am
Your right, your meds are working perfectly, the dummbing down process is complete.
It should be “You’re right”
You have made a grammatical error while calling someone dumb.
July 6, 2009 at 8:04 am
AmericaInsane-o,
I will come here and write what I want when I want and you can shove it up your paranoid ass.
No one GPSed you. You’re nuts.
July 6, 2009 at 8:10 am
I have a new theory on Sarah Palin: Roger Ailes has offered her a show on Fox. Why did she not say why she was resigning? She couldn’t have said: “I’m sick of this job and the criticism. I’m sick of Juneau. But I love being a celebrity and I want to make lots of money. Screw politics. Screw Alaska.”
All the media attention is benefiting Fox and her new show.
When the new shows debut in September, Palin will be one of them. Bet on it.
July 6, 2009 at 8:13 am
That sounds about right, DND. Heck, she might even be back-to-back with Huckabee’s show.
I still smell a rat there with her.
July 6, 2009 at 8:25 am
Steve here are some news articles addressing Census and the use of GPS. After you read them (if you can) you can apologize for being wrong.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5590541
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=97208
http://gps.about.com/b/2009/04/06/us-census-gps-in-neighborhoods-now.htm
I suppose I’ve imagined these articles as well aye Steve-o.
July 6, 2009 at 8:28 am
Good morning!
AI, as a group, we BC’ers are political junkies. Thus, Palin’s shenanigans are interesting to us. Individually, we each have particular issues that are of primary interest to us. We keep each other informed, trade links to interesting articles, and generally just bat around our ideas. We don’t consider any topic off limits. And, I think we are fortunate to have two historians in our midst. It’s worked well for us for over a year now.
July 6, 2009 at 8:30 am
I’m not apologizing to you for anything.
You are out of your mind. I also dont give a shit if anyone is trying to put you in a looney bin.
You started this with me and its on now, whack-o.
World Net Daily?
July 6, 2009 at 8:31 am
I forgot one thing: we treat each other with respect here.
July 6, 2009 at 8:34 am
Nanny,
I appreciate your kind words. I have no idea why this person singled me out, but it is what it is.
I go back years with you guys and I am not going to be bullied by some nutjob that thinks the Feds are watching him and implies our military and the Brits were behind 9-11. It was made personal when this person called my wife “dummb.” She was really just getting into BC and now this person has pretty much driven her away for the day…thats personal.
As I said, I was the first to try to be nice to this person, trying to find out who they were and welcome them.
…but its on now and its going to stay on.
and just like every single person here, this is a free forum, we can post anything we like….
July 6, 2009 at 8:34 am
Good morning, Steve, Bird, and dnd.
It’s another miserable day in the North Country. It’s 50 degrees, damp, and downright nasty. My heat actually came on during the night. Some freaking summer this is! So if I’m in a bitchy mood you all know why.
July 6, 2009 at 8:35 am
Mutual respect, but when someone insults me, I give no quarter….
July 6, 2009 at 8:36 am
Good morning Nanny,
I think all that is great.
All my comments have been directed towards Steven and Bird.
My views my be different than most on this blog, but that dosnt mean they arent relevant or that they warrant name calling.
July 6, 2009 at 8:36 am
Steve, tell Bird to come back. We want her here. She is far from dumb and has much to contribute. Plus, there aren’t enough women here. Tell her I need her back!
July 6, 2009 at 8:37 am
Nanny
We finally got some good rain last night and the garden looks great…..
July 6, 2009 at 8:39 am
AI
You shouldnt start crap with people and expect them to just take it. You started this, and I will not be insulted like that.
…and it’s “doesn’t” not “dosnt”
July 6, 2009 at 8:40 am
AI, I have no problem with you expressing views about issues. But it needs to be done without sarcasm and rudeness.
July 6, 2009 at 8:40 am
I will do that, Nanny. She’s walking our dog right now. She’s fine, just very pissed about being treated like that.
I may get her to send you an e-mail.
We do need more women here. I miss Sheila and wish she would come back, and we will see Dogs Eye and UB soon enough.
Personally, I wish we had a Republican or two here as well.
July 6, 2009 at 8:42 am
Steve, with all the rain we’ve been getting here, I expect my garden to rot any time now.
I have never seen a summer like this. It’s warmer and sunnier in freakin Alaska!
July 6, 2009 at 8:42 am

July 6, 2009 at 8:44 am
I really miss UB and hope she is back soon. Dog’s Eye, if you’re reading, please jump in. We miss you, too.
July 6, 2009 at 8:47 am
BTW…has anyone here been watching MoJo? That “real Americans” comment by Mica made me sick! I’m getting sick and tired of the implication that we “liberal elites” are not “real Americans.”
July 6, 2009 at 8:48 am
Steve where do you get your facts ? LOl.
Where did I say anything about 9/11???
Your wife attacked me ,calling me an asshole, lol
When did I say the government was watching me?
You call me a liar and a nut job even after I prove you wrong? And I’m the crazy one?
Nanny..if you follow the thread its’ pretty clear who was rude first.
July 6, 2009 at 8:51 am
Robert McNamara, former Defense Sec’t under John Kennedy has passed away.
July 6, 2009 at 8:53 am
Yes, AI, you are crazy. You implied the US Military carried out the 9-11 attacks on July 3rd or 4th. Its in the thread.
July 6, 2009 at 8:54 am
Nanny,
I think Mac has the misfortune of being greatly to blame for both the escalation of Vietnam and the Ford Edsel. Dont know how many people will remember him.
July 6, 2009 at 8:59 am
I talked to my grandmother recently who is about to turn 95. She grew up in Nazi Germany, attended Hitler rallies and was there at the start of the holocost . I asked her..
“Gram, when they first started loading jews onto trains ,where did they think they were going?”
She said” We didnt know,no one knew at first. By the time we/they realized what was happening,it was too late. The cities were locked down, there was no where to go.”
I asked ” Did they disarm the public first? Did they take away peoples guns?”
She said “Yes”
P.S. Before I’m called a gun toting right wing nut job again,I dont own any guns.
July 6, 2009 at 9:04 am
No Steve ,you over medicated lefty bozo (there I name called, happy now?). What I did was use 9/11 as an example of how people think bad things cant happen, and people like you attack people who dont think like you do. And since we have a couple historians on this blog. maybe one of them can tell Steve what percentage of the population supported the start of the American Revolution. Here I’ll help you,it was 10%. You can bet that when a group of ten people were gathered and that one guy said hey those brits are fucking us we have to stop them. The other nine called him crazy.
I bet you’re happy that guy didnt listen aye Steve?
July 6, 2009 at 9:07 am
Hmmm… Steve is one of those historians.
July 6, 2009 at 9:09 am

AI
You need care and treatment…..and spellcheck.
July 6, 2009 at 9:12 am
No worries, ya’ll. I’ve got way more important things to do than to engage a lunatic. I’m going to take off this month’s worth of recycling…reduce, reuse, recycle IGNORE the rest. gorgeous day here, and I feel great!
July 6, 2009 at 9:13 am
Im misspelling and mispunctuating to give you somthing bitch about Stevei, make you feel better about yourself.
July 6, 2009 at 9:14 am
Yayyyyyy for pharmacuticles Birdy!
July 6, 2009 at 9:14 am
Steve, I don’t know about the Edsel, but McNamara should rightfully get a great deal of the blame for escalating the war in Vietnam. He sold the tale of the Gulf of Tonkin incident to Congress and caused us to get deeper and deeper into that mess. He has a lot of blood on his hands.
Now fill me on on the Edsel story, please.
July 6, 2009 at 9:44 am
Hang on Nanny, let me see what I can cook up.
July 6, 2009 at 9:48 am
Edsel and Mac
http://eh.net/bookreviews/library/0685
Really, there was so much blame after the fact at Ford that McNamara may not have been given completely fair treatment. Henry Ford II was also given a great deal of the blame. The car sold fairly well, but it didnt live up to the roll-out and production costs.
McNamara’s tenure wasnt that bad.
July 6, 2009 at 9:50 am
Morning peeps, well I see it’s been quite a morning. Everyone just take a deep breath and chill!
July 6, 2009 at 9:54 am
Sorry Brian. I cant do that…not this time. It was totally uncalled for and I wont be treated like that. Not here. This isnt Craig’s place.
I’ve been the peacemaker to many times at too many venues.
Its on now. I start this or ask for this.
That guy can go to hell.
July 6, 2009 at 9:55 am
should have read
“Its on now. I didnt start this or ask for this. “
July 6, 2009 at 9:58 am
Exactly Steve it’s not Craig’s that’s why I’m asking you two to just take a deep breath and chill. You’re both nice guys, really. And I think you just both got off to a bad start. So come on guys, pleasssssssssssssssssssse.
July 6, 2009 at 10:02 am
You know I would view things very differently had I not been jumped right at the start of thread for no reason. Its also not the first time this person has been rude to me for no reason.
Brian, you and I have crossed swords a time or two with no hard feelings afterwards. He’s a big boy and so are you.
He started this shit and he can finish it or learn some manners.
July 6, 2009 at 10:04 am
Steve I’ve known AI for quite awhile, I can see how you could mistake his first comment for being a dick but I know he was just kidding with you and being a smart ass, really. You’re both nice people with strong beliefs who got off on the wrong foot.
July 6, 2009 at 10:04 am
Hey, Steve, thanks for the Edsel info.
July 6, 2009 at 10:06 am
I already finished it Steve..I provided proof that you were wrong, accept it,you’ll be ok Daddy promises.
July 6, 2009 at 10:10 am
Ohhh puleeze! That was really uncalled for AI.
July 6, 2009 at 10:10 am
AI, You didnt finish anything. You are a rude, sad punk.
See Brian, he’s a dick.
July 6, 2009 at 10:11 am
Steve…my mom can beat up your mom
July 6, 2009 at 10:12 am
uh oh
July 6, 2009 at 10:13 am
Don’t make me get out my taser! Come on guys, for the children…..
July 6, 2009 at 10:13 am
You are not worthy to speak of my Mother.
July 6, 2009 at 10:16 am
i know i’m new here and all, but if this kind of stuff is ok around here, i’m out. this is crazy.
July 6, 2009 at 10:16 am
Deep breaths Steve….count backwards..10..9..8..ahhhhhh. LOL yeah man,I’m the crazy one.
July 6, 2009 at 10:18 am
Bird, I’ve never seen this stuff here before. Maybe we need to just ignore it. I have no appetite for this either.
July 6, 2009 at 10:20 am
AI, could you please stop now? This has gone on for too long. If you want to talk politics and issues, great. I’m happy to engage. But this childish nonsense needs to stop.
July 6, 2009 at 10:21 am
How about just giving me the benefit of the doubt and accept when I say you two guys just got off to a bad start. I know you both, and I know you’re both nice guys. How about a fresh start for both you?
July 6, 2009 at 10:23 am
those of you who have known steven via the internet for a while know he lost his mother not that long ago. his mother should be sainted, and he misses her so much. i’ve known steve since 1982, and i’ll tell you guys, i doubt he’ll be back.
July 6, 2009 at 10:25 am
peaces, troops
July 6, 2009 at 10:33 am
Steve,im sorry you lost your mother thats a sad thing,Ive lost mine as well. All of our mothers should be sainted Bird not just Steves. But cmon now,I wasnt really saying anything about your mother. Lets all put our big boy pants on now and listen to mama Brian.
P.S. Before I’m corrected about my punctuation ,I already know. I just dont care
July 6, 2009 at 10:34 am
Good morning all! From politics to lost mothers? Wow! Quite the leap…
July 6, 2009 at 10:38 am
Hi Constance, hope you brought some oil to calm these troubled waters!
July 6, 2009 at 10:39 am
Oh trust me…I can put this fire out quick if I choose to ‘wink’
July 6, 2009 at 10:40 am
Good morning Constance
July 6, 2009 at 10:41 am
It is for me….
July 6, 2009 at 10:46 am
Hi Constance.
July 6, 2009 at 10:56 am
Hello Nanny and all others! I hope your day is going well.
July 6, 2009 at 11:34 am
Peace in our time, how nice, LOL
July 6, 2009 at 11:54 am
Russia allowing US planes to use their air space is a very big deal, I wonder if anyone is grasping that point.
July 6, 2009 at 12:17 pm
I think it’s huge, Brian. Obama and Medvedev seem to have accomplished more in this brief meeting than the prior admin did in 8yrs. If these agreements hold, it could bode very well for our relationship with Russia.
OT: Keep your fingers crossed for me. The sun looks like it is trying to peek out from behind the clouds. FINALLY!
July 6, 2009 at 12:17 pm
I am. I was watching the conference.
July 6, 2009 at 12:19 pm
That sure was some fancy gold leafed hall they were talking in.
July 6, 2009 at 12:24 pm
That place was beautiful. Would definitely love to see that building if I ever visit there!
July 6, 2009 at 12:30 pm
You and me both, Constance. That looked magnificent!
July 6, 2009 at 12:37 pm
No kidding, it kinda made the “White House” look old and plain.
July 6, 2009 at 12:38 pm
Makes you wonder how many serfs ended up dead in the process of it’s construction!
July 6, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Ah let em eat CAKE as long as we have our ornamental gold leaf filigree columns from floor to ceiling!-just joking by the way.
July 6, 2009 at 12:44 pm
Whew, sounds like the bad ol’ days over there on you know where!
Nanny, it was 109 yesterday and will hit 114 by Thursday. My tomatoes are already dried up and gone for the summer. Had about a half dozen early girls and several dozen romas before the real heat hit us.
I’m hoping everything else that’s growing will survive with a little shade and a little more water: carrots, beets, eggplant, and three different peppers.
Ah, next year I have even bigger plans for covered gardening. I’m checking into what I can plant and harvest in August or September for a December harvest.
Don’t you miss Texas, Nanny?
July 6, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Al Franken looks so proud and happy right now!
July 6, 2009 at 1:32 pm
At the moment I sure do, eprof! I need warmth and sunshine! West Texas always had plenty of both.
Now, as for that garden of yours, I’m green with envy! I tried to grow eggplant (my favorite food) here for several years. I think one year I harvested two. Every other year I came up empty. It just won’t grow here. Not much does….
July 6, 2009 at 2:14 pm
It looks like this is going to be a very success trip for the prez, lots of agreements coming out of it.
July 6, 2009 at 2:31 pm
I wonder if anyone is going to broadcast Frankin’s swearing in tomorrow, or will it be all Jacko all the time.
July 6, 2009 at 2:32 pm
My guess is that Rep. Peter King has lost the Michael Jackson fan vote:
July 6, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Hey eprof2,
Sorry about the garden. If it’s any consolation, your Dbacks took the series against the Rockies. Hope the Nats are easier on us!
July 6, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Prof, the garden looks great here after last night’s rain. Our squash are coming along great and the tomatoes here are getting red.
July 6, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Another brilliant performance from Pete King!
July 6, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Honduras into melt-down: Airport closed, rioting, mayhem…I did see some of the live feed on CNN just a minute ago
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jAkMGKIUDg_ngUiZboxQbYj5_DPwD9990JQO2
July 6, 2009 at 2:41 pm
OK, that’s it! If you guys keep up all this gardening talk, I’m gonna cry!
As for Peter King, he’s got a terminal case of hoof and mouth disease.
July 6, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Didnt King do something really bonkers a year or so ago about terrorism? I am trying to remember. I think it was on Olbermann’s show…of course KO sometimes goes a little over the top from time to time.
July 6, 2009 at 2:56 pm
Peter King Watch Blog
http://kingwatch.blogspot.com/
hasnt been updated since April, but it may be of interest…
July 6, 2009 at 2:57 pm
The amazing thing about King’s more choice statements, they really aren’t issues anyone expects him to comment on.
July 6, 2009 at 2:58 pm
This qualifies as bonkers, Steve:
July 6, 2009 at 3:00 pm
If he becomes my senator, I’m moving to Canada.
July 6, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Who is he up against up there? He will be up against a pretty strong current if it this year…the GOP may have a bit of a backlash next year depnding on the economy.
July 6, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Nanny
Check your FB, I sent you a picture.
and again thanks
July 6, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Steve, whoever the repug candidate is, he or she will be up against Kirsten Gillibrand. I think Gillibrand can win as she has a lot of support even in northern NY which has tended to lean repug in the past. However, I expect it to be a tough fight; we’re already gearing up for it here.
July 6, 2009 at 3:31 pm
I wasnt sure how popular she was up there, dont know a lot about her….
July 6, 2009 at 3:51 pm
Palin threatens lawsuits against media outlets
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0709/24521.html
July 6, 2009 at 3:52 pm
Don’t be sure about Gillibrand!
July 6, 2009 at 3:57 pm
King is being called out on MSNBC, LOL
July 6, 2009 at 3:57 pm
She’s more conservative than I like. But that works well up here in the rural counties. She won her congressional seat in a district that is 78 per cent repug. And she’s following the Hillary Clinton method of getting out there and listening to the voters. If anything, she may have a harder time winning over voters in the City, the traditional Dem stronghold. From what I see so far, I think she’ll succeed.
July 6, 2009 at 3:58 pm
Why, Brian? Do you think the City will go for Carolyn Maloney in the primary?
July 6, 2009 at 4:00 pm
Yep I sure do, and she’s come out very strongly supporting Bloomberg, which doesn’t thrill me, but it’s very savvy on her part.
July 6, 2009 at 4:06 pm
That’s going to be a problem. I’m not sure Maloney can win here in the upstate counties.
July 6, 2009 at 4:13 pm
She can be pretty compelling, and a lot depends on who the GOP puts up.
July 6, 2009 at 4:24 pm
I had read that she was center-right but in some ways I like that. As Brian and I have discussed, I am very pro-gun ownership and I think she is gun friendly, yes?
KO should have a ball with King tonight and Palin’s little lawsuit threat…
July 6, 2009 at 4:45 pm
She’s the NRA’s whore in my opinion! enough said, LOL
July 6, 2009 at 4:46 pm
She is definitely pro-gun. But she recently co-sponsored a gun control bill in the Senate that aims to limit gun trafficking into NY from other states.
July 6, 2009 at 4:54 pm
I think most politios are “cracking” down on gun ownership which is seemingly ridiculous since most who use guns for criminal activities obtain them through dubious means anyway so the laws are useless!
July 6, 2009 at 4:59 pm
Belated hello Constance, and amen to your take on firearms.
I’m not sure the “gun issue” hasn’t passed for right now. Too many other big issues…
July 6, 2009 at 5:01 pm
I’m not doing the Second Amendment debate.
July 6, 2009 at 5:03 pm
I wasn’t debating the Second Amendment just pointing out the obvious farce of “cracking down” on firearms.
July 6, 2009 at 5:05 pm
“Palin threatens lawsuits against media outlets”
Well that’s a good way to get on the good side of the media. Smart move Sarah!
July 6, 2009 at 5:10 pm
Not really Constance, if you remove the legal incentive to manufacture these guns the supply dries up.
July 6, 2009 at 5:11 pm
Andria Mitchell is in Wasilla! I wondered who she pissed off at the assignment desk. I hope someone told her to go the the Wal Mart and get some insect repellent. The mosquitoes in AK are not to be trifled with.
July 6, 2009 at 5:12 pm
Ok, I give & I’ve wasted enough time trying to change my generic “unknown comic” icon/graphic/pic so please for the love of God and all that is good & holy can someone tell me how to get this proverbial paper bag offa my head?! “whew”
Sorry-I’m a newb.
I thank you in advance for your patience, time, information & kindness
July 6, 2009 at 5:13 pm
Constance to you have a wordpress account?
July 6, 2009 at 5:15 pm
You need to visit the south where they make their OWN weapons of mass destruction.
They seem to have an uncanny knack for making lots of dangerous weaponry all by themselves.
They don’t need no stinkin’ gun manufacturers! LOL
July 6, 2009 at 5:17 pm
No. I don’t believe I do.
July 6, 2009 at 5:22 pm
you need a wordpress account to have an avitar. go to wordpress.com and set up an account.
July 6, 2009 at 5:25 pm
Unknown Comic would be a great icon! Brian is usually handy with these kind of things.
The south is definitely a funny place. Its also a place where many of us pack heat. I wonder of the murder rate is higher here???
Why is Andrea Mitchell in Caribou Barbie land?
July 6, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Thanks and now for my other dumb question {drum roll}
When I sign up it’s asking me if I want :
A) Gimme a blog! (Like username.wordpress.com)
B) Just a username, please.
July 6, 2009 at 5:38 pm
