  • Liz thinks the “Liberal Media” is caving in on her. Liz is the poster child for Rightwing nuttiness.

  • Aren’t they all trout?

  • I loved Palin’s rambling press conference. I am still not sure what she was trying to say though. Andrea Mitchell seems to think she is interested in cashing in on her fame and nothing else.

  • Missile strikes in Pakistan kill 12. Target was Taliban leader. He wasnt killed. Drone activity increases

Good morning all! I still can’t find an avatar option so I can chage it.
Anyway as for Sarah doing this to ‘cash in on her fame”-I say good for her! Most make more money for doing far less and being way more inane.

  • AmeRICANInSURGEnt

    Good morning BCB

I’m just waiting for the Palin sex tape to be released.

  • Good morning Constance. I would imagine her book deal will be pretty sweet. I think it was DND (forgive me if I cant remember) who said she might have a TV show in the works. I even heard “Talk Show” last night on one of the TV Networks.

I agree with you about her cashing in, as long as she isnt doing it illegally.

  • Good morning Brian. Nice and cool here

  • So what does everyone think, should tomorrow be our Michael Jackson thread?

  • I heard MJ died is that true? that’s gonna be big.

  • today, mrs dooty (she refuses to take the trout boy name) and I got married 33 years ago. Never would have thought it would come to this.

  • I’m sure mrs trout is equally amazed! Congrats!

  • Good morning, everyone.

  • Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Doots! Have a wonderful anniversary today and may you have many more.

  • “Most make more money for doing far less and being way more inane.”

Hmmm….. Is it possible to be any more inane than Caribou Barbie?

  • there was a time when we might go out on the town and really celebrate but now we will probably go to the local salad bar and hoist a salad fork. Getting old is hard work.

  • “Getting old is hard work.”

    Tell me about it!

  • Congratulations, HD, and to the brave soul who has guided you for 33 years. Thanks, too, for the garden lead.

I guess there won’t be any “regular” news today as it will be the MJ show all day and all night and into the rest of the week. The King is dead; long live the King!

  • Trout: Heartiest of congratulations!

Poor Bird has had to listne to me rant about the wall-to-wall MJ covearge. This is a bit much. I even very briefly turned it over the FOX “news” for something anything. They had a Palin interview they were sneak peaking. FOX is the only net she will talk to right now. Imagine that.

    Good morning Nanny

  • Hello Prof. Your head is looking very concrete today.

  • Congrats Sr y Sra Doots!

  • Steve, I agree with you. This coverage has gone on way too long, twelve days so far. Hopefully this will be the end of it…. at least until the finally autopsy report is release.

  • Doots, I hear ya on the salad thing. I eat way more than my share, too. The other night when Paul and I celebrated our anniversary, the restaurant owner tried to bring us a fancy dessert on the house. Turning it away was not easy. But keeping that blood sugar under control is more important.
As for getting old, it SUCKS!

  • The salads do wonders for all of us. I screw up by adding too much stuff like eggs and cheese. Then again, what are you gonna do?

  • It’s like people after their third trip to the salad bar and then say “hey it’s only salad”

  • Has anybody seen a commercial for a Michael Jackson commemorative plate yet? It’s bound to happen to sooner or later.

  • here is an Alaskan Huffpo columnist Shannyn Moore’s take on the whole Palin resigning.

“Hmmm….. Is it possible to be any more inane than Caribou Barbie?”
Ummm I think so…how about Paris Hilton?

  • No dnd, but maybe when my 24k gold clad proofs are delivered there will be some info with them.

  • more of the same except this is just stupefying. Where did this woman go to school? She is way too stupid to run for any public office other than dog catcher. Read this!

  • “It’s like people after their third trip to the salad bar and then say “hey it’s only salad””

Oh yeah, I did that in the Air Force. I would eat and eat and eat, thinking…I am in the service now. I can eat all i want to! I gained like 13 pounds the first 2 or 3 weeks of basic training.

DND: I wouldnt be shocked to see it.

  • Huffpo link: She quit for the good of Alaska. It was all about the people.

  • Constance, Paris isn’t an elected governor and didn’t run for VP. Playing silly and insipid is Paris’ shtick; but by most accounts, she’s a very astute business woman.

  • Here’s the poop: Sarah Palin is an impostor. She was in over her head, and she finally figured it out. She finally figured out what so many others saw. But thanks to John McCain, she became a celebrity. So rather than be completely be exposed as a fake, bowing out to become a professional celebrity was a no-brainer.

  • Salad bars are too dangerous; I opt to order a salad from a menu.

  • If Palin were in the WH, they wouldn’t need a Dept of Law; she’d require a fully staffed psych ward. The woman is insane.

  • “Sarah Palin is an impostor. She was in over her head…”

dnd, you’ll get no argument from me.

  • ConstanceTruggle

“Constance, Paris isn’t an elected governor and didn’t run for VP”
I agree but the most important word in the statement is ELECTED.

  • Eugene Robinson on Palin:
“There are basically two reasons the political class and the commentariat continue to speak and write about Palin as if she were a substantial figure whose presence on the national stage is anything but a cruel, unfunny joke. The first is fear — not of Palin and her know-nothing legions, but of being painted as elitist and sexist. ”

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/06/AR2009070603141.html

This column should win him another Pulitzer prize.

  • “I loved Palin’s rambling press conference. I am still not sure what she was trying to say though. ”

    Steve,
Someone needs to annotate Palin’s presser to explain what she meant. Or what she was trying to spin.

  • DND at 11:33 good take…she was a McCain gimmick. Thats about it. She doesnt even compare well to the actual 1st Lady Veep nominee, Gerry Ferraro in 1984.

I understand in the FOXnews interview she gripes quite a bit about the media.

am rediscovering link TV’s Amy Goodman right now. Prett good news cast.

  • I wonder if she would have up and quit on the Vice Presidency.

  • Constance,
I’d say Michelle Bachmann is more inane that Sarah Palin. Possibly John Boehner too. But it’s pretty close ;)

  • ConstanceTruggle

I’m beginning to believe all politicians are inane.

  • Here’s a final shout-out to Michael Jackson:

  • Just couldn’t help yourself could you d?

  • Tom Paxton is one of the most clever songwriters EVER. Have you heard the song, “I Am Changing My Name To Fanny Mae”? He sorta gets right to the crux of the screw up.

here is a video for Brian. “Talkin Pot Luck in Vietnam”

  • I was walking by the tv while ago and I have never seen an rent car bus painted in black and at a funeral. Gotta love LA.

  • Those are party buses trout, lots of kids around here get them for prom night.

  • Are they bringing the casket to the Staple Center? Creepy!

  • Sarah is going to make a lot of money – that’s great so she can pay for her treatments. But, MJ had a lot of money and look where it got him. Soulmate only got censured. As Satchmo sang, “It’s a Wonderful World.” On to the next big news event whatever it may be.

Congrats HD – our 44th is coming next month. As we like to say 32 of them have been great!

  • Tom Paxton had an album one time with some songs on it such as: “Dont Slay That Potato,” “Thank You, Republic Airlines” and “We Lost the America’s Cup.” I cant remember the name of it, maybe it came out around 1983 or so. It was pretty funny. I used to get him and Phil Ochs confused.

  • All three networks are carrying the MJ memorial and all three cable news networks, amazing and weird.

  • Bev in Tempe 44 is pretty awesome. Keep up the good work!

  • Serious Question: Did they give President Ford’s death this much coverage?

  • they didn’t give his presidency this much coverage!

  • Good one, Brian.

Well, I do think it is an important story, but this, IMO, is a bit too much.

  • Not one mention of the father either.

  • Hillary and Zelaya meet today, Costa Rico’s Oscar Arias is also in the works to mediate deal.

    Good afternoon BCB

Is anyone else a little irritated at Biden’s latest statement concerning the economy?

  • Not disappointing, just sorry it happens to be true. It’s going to be a slow climb out of this 20 year deep hole we are not in.

  • Good for DC

  • It was very clever to have King’s children speak at the memorial service, the image of MJ has totally been remade right before our very eyes.

Peter King would be wise to avoid Harlem for a very long time.

Realize this was a rhetorical question, but in answer to nanny’s 10:24 a “could anyone be more inane than Sarah Palin?”, our next contender of the evening:

“To the Editor [of the New York Times, and they published this today]:

It is appropriate that Sarah Palin announced her bold decision to resign as governor of Alaska on the Fourth of July weekend. She is one of the few politicians today who still embody the same ideals and characteristics of those brave individuals who gave us this country.

Our forefathers chose not to tolerate the unreasonable behavior of the English, and Ms. Palin decided that she and her family could no longer tolerate the unrelenting, vicious attacks of her enemies.

Her altruistic qualities that appealed to so many obviously worried the liberal Democrats, and they continually harassed this honorable, charismatic woman, even half a year after the election was over.

Nobody should have to endure such mean-spirited attacks, and those who inflicted them should not be allowed to profit by them.

What more, really, can you say?

Happy anniversary Mr. and Mrs. troutboy formerly known as Doots.

Many happy returns. That’s about the third anniversary of my knowing you are having an anniversary. Happy all around.

And belated happy anniversary to Mrs. and Dr. nannym too.

    =============

If bold, altruistic Sarah Palin set out to discover and deliver this American paradise to us

we would be Finns. Right now.

Who says she’s any better at geography or navigating than analyzing, orating, legislating or public service?

  • “She is one of the few politicians today who still embody the same ideals and characteristics of those brave individuals who gave us this country.”

    dog,

Perhaps she was referring to Todd Palin belonging to a party that wants AK to secede from the US?

Perhaps Ms. O’Neil wants Newport Beach to secede from the US? ;)

  • dog's eye view

Newport Beach — or some of it — has pretty much seceded! Robert Reich called it years ago. “The Secession of the Successful”. Into gated communities and the isolation of privilege.

    =====

Altruistic? That’s one of the most Orwellian touches.

Very little about the conservative GOP message is about altruism. (1) They distrust it as a basis for action. (2) Their blowback at attempts at healthcare reform — access for all — is “look out for yourself! You might lose your own good deal.”

Charles Gibson is worried about the previously uninsured swamping his doctor’s office, resulting in some difficulty to himself and his comfortably situated colleagues and associates.

  • All the major nets got suckered into a photo-op of Palin “fishing with the family.” I first saw it on CNN. Waders and rubber gloves. And full makeup.

Still playing the victim card, the Tundra Tart trumped up the altruistic nature of her resignation.

Gov. Palin: how can I miss you if you won’t go away?

  • And for all you Rooskies that have been dissing President Obama, I have two words for you: Major Kong:
