House GOP rises up against Cheney, by Horsedooty

There was a time when Dick Cheney could turn back a Republican revolt on Capitol Hill.

That time is gone.

The vice president traveled to Capitol Hill on Tuesday to silence a chorus of GOP complaints about Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson’s $700 billion plan. But House Republicans who walked into a closed-door meeting with Cheney steaming over the plan walked out just as angry, and they described what happened in between as both “a bloodbath” and “an unmitigated disaster.”

“It’s a sad fact, but Americans can no longer trust the economic information they are getting from this administration,” South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint said in a comment posted on Politico’s Arena forum.”

The Stockton Record, a California newspaper, endorses Obama.

They last endorsed a Democrat in 1936. FDR.

Choice is Clear: Obama for President

  2. Hard to say who I’ll “miss” more, George or Dick!

I am sorry the taxpayers have to fund pensions and protection for Bush and Cheney.

I wonder what Cheney has been doing with his time, these last few months in office. He may have no pull with congressional GOP, but who knows what he and Addington are doing behind the scenes in the VP’s offices.

AP story in NY Times: AG Mukasey names prosecutor in fired US attorneys case; chooses Nora Dannehy, a career prosecutor from Connecticut, to direct the probe.

“WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General Michael Mukasey appointed a Connecticut prosecutor Monday to pursue possible criminal charges against Republicans who were involved in the controversial firings of U.S. attorneys.

His move follows the leading recommendation of a Justice Department investigation that harshly criticized Bush administration officials, members of Congress and their aides for the ousters, which were seen by many as politically motivated.

Results of the investigation were made public Monday. The report singled out the removal of U.S. Attorney David Iglesias of New Mexico as the most troubling.”

Story is longer; no link since baby blog feasts on NYTimes links (in my experience). It’s on Times front page.

    Obama in Colorado today:

    http://cbs4denver.com/politics/Obama.Visit.Denver.2.828172.html

Westminster is a burb north of Denver. I think the speech will be at 11am MDT and will be broadcast on cbs4denver.com.

Michelle will be in Boulder (home of the University of Colorado Buffalo’s) on Wednesday.

  6. chefsheila

Morning folks. I slept……Just getting up.

Cool Dnd, Wasn’t that around where we had dinner?

Dog, the probe…..you know how long this is going to take, we’ll be well into the next adinistration. Does this mean they can actually prosecute if they find something?

  7. dnd

    Doots,
That’s an interesting link. Darth Cheney loses his force.

  8. chefsheila

Do you know what I hate? Their are people homeless because of this bloodbath of job loss and outsourcing. While their are so many rich people who have lost a lot of stock and “Virtual” money, but they will be comfortable in the long haul. That is what is a bitter pill to take.

  9. chefsheila

Sorry Doots, I read the article and my mind started thinking about how Cheneya and his creepy cronies aren’t going to suffer for what they enmass have done to impact the homelessness that is growing by leeps and bounds.

  10. chefsheila

The Mccain campaign is going to highlight how Obama is going to “Raise” taxes……LOL

I think Ohions are listeing now and I can’t believe they would believe that. Plus under the circumstances, Both candidates will raise taxes no matter what. We are in trouble folks.

  11. chefsheila

Listening to McCain in Ohio. He is truely more of the same. He is such a liar. Its dazzling.

  12. He’s trying to make a silk purse from a lipstick wearing sow’s ear!

  13. chefsheila

The audience is a little confused about what McCain is talking about. Its a LOT over their heads.

  14. chefsheila

“A vote for Barack Obama will be a vote for Higher Taxes and even fewer jobs”………….LOLOLOLOL

Senator Obama just doesn’t get it?…….McCain is just going to get a vote from the poeple who think that a vote for the republican party is a vote for patriotism, because they drank the Koolaid of American Fascism. Ok, I said it. lol

Where’s anon-p when ya need him?

  15. he’s also telling a great big lie on the troop funding issue.

  16. It only took the smucks in the House seven years and eight months to finally get it and what this administration has done to our country. Well done, Horse!

  17. dnd

Can’t he go anywhere without Caribou Barbie? After last week’s Couric interviews and Tina Fey on SNL, I’d think he’d want to put her in the background.

  18. dnd

Hey eprof2, what are your picks for the post season?

  19. chefsheila

McCain has to use Palin because she is a draw. He is tapping the “DUH” factor.

  20. dnd

Dow is down 680. House doesn’t want to pass the bail out.

  21. chefsheila

Mark this time line. The Market is down 681

the Congress is still not voting yes. It may not pass

  22. chefsheila

Great minds think a like dnd.

  23. chefsheila

I want to direct your attention to “FLorida” and Missouri becoming a toss up states. Oregon and Michigan become solid 🙂

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/maps/obama_vs_mccain/

  24. chefsheila

Well……as far as the Market. let the cards fall where it may. Unfortunately, we have a bunch of Fascists in the coungress. They don’t beleive in making the bed and lying in it.

  25. chefsheila

A full scale World Market Plummet is happening right now.

  26. dnd, I’m going to root for the Cubs. In reality, I’m just looking for some good baseball, like the White Sox and Detroit today, right now, actually. And, you?

  27. horsedooty

the bill was defeated today. They have to now start over.

  28. dnd

    Shelia,
I think the market will be ok. This is just a bunch of panic selling. Looks like the house has defeated the bailout.

ps. Westminster is about 10 miles south of where we had dinner.

  29. chefsheila

lol OK. I just feel a sense of inevitability. I mean the truth is the truth. Virtual money is never better than real money or coin.

  30. dog's eye view

Doots picked a timely topic. The House GOP rose up against Cheney, and just rebuffed Bush.

There will be a bill, eventually. This one was pretty flawed, wasn’t it?

  31. chefsheila

the whole thing is a prop up. nothing will work except for eventually throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Which means. Unfortunately, the real fix is going to be paying back what we all owe. But there is not enough money in the world that can do that right now.

the people who are crying out that this is not fair, are not looking at WE yet. They are thinking of only themselves.

30 years of Me Me Me on Wall Street and in the pocket books of all Americans is now coming home to roost

  32. chefsheila

But…..the republicans are still thinking in terms of the Republic and not the Democracy. they say a lot of them didn’t want “A Socialistic” Bailout.

  33. dog's eye view

Warren Buffett put $5 billion into Goldman Sachs last week. While that’s possibly chump change to him, he did it because he judges there will be a bailout. Maybe not immediately, but in time to make his investment worthwhile.

Wonder what his hoped for solution looks like? Has anyone seen any reporting on that?

It’s unfortunate this meltdown is happening at all, but having it happen 7 weeks before the congresscritters meet the voters… quel desastre!

  34. chefsheila

His investment on Goldmen Sachs was strictly a profit approach. Warren Buffet can afford to lose that much. So you just saw a steep bet in pocker

  35. dog's eye view

I think our next president will be Obama. God bless him for the many crises facing him, immediately. Good that he is a marathoner in his approach.

    God help us all.

  36. dnd

Let’s see. McCain suspends his campaign and parachutes into DC to get the bill to pass. The House Republicans torpedo the bill. Don’t you just hate Mondays?

  37. chefsheila

dnd, I heard last weeks “Black Wednesday” call. So now what do we call Monday? “The Day the World Stood Still”? “Boomers Selfishness Coming Home To Roost”?

  38. chefsheila

    How about. “Freedom Fall Monday”

  39. dog's eye view

Sheila: saw that CNN chart. Yowza.

What’s up with Norway? Why are they profiting off everyone else’s travails? Maybe they never opened their exchange today?

  40. chefsheila

    Here’s something about Norway to chew on;

Wall Street Crisis – How it affects the Norwegian Economy

    http://www.norwaypost.no/cgi-bin/norwaypost/imaker?id=193125

The answer to Norway’s financial health is in the oil prices. Although the values in the financial markets are decreasing, the activity in the oil market is still high, and returns from the Norwegian oil fund may be able to make up for the economic recession

  41. dnd

Dow down 770. Heckuva job Bohener.

  42. chefsheila

DOW finished at 777. The worst point drop in history.

  43. chefsheila

LOL Oh Sorry. I saw 777. Maybe just thinking about 666.

  44. MUHLENBERG COLLEGE /MORNING CALL
2008 Presidential Tracking Poll – Pennsylvai

As in: some boomers’ dreams of retiring (early or at all) have just jetted off into the stratosphere. Prepare for turbulence.

  46. dnd

Who is this economic meltdown screwing? Everybody! But the seniors are suffering the most. And they vote.

  47. Robert Riech just said this is not Armageddon, we can all breath now.

  48. horsedooty

I am thinking of digging a hole in the back yard and getting a lard can to put what money I have left in and burying it there.

  49. horsedooty

Grampa Urine is still having a bad day looks like to me.

  50. New Fox Rasmussen poll just out:

    Obama +8 in PA
    tie in Florida
McCain ahead by only 1 in Ohio
Obama ahead by 3 in VA
Obama ahead by 1 in Co.

  51. the dark bailout

    for batman fans

  52. I’m telling you , there is a quiet run on the banks, no one wants to talk about it ……

I think it’s really going to be rough, pulse, people aren’t as kind as they were during the depression….It’s turned into ” I got mine get the hell away from me society”

oh another republican value……everyman for himself.

  53. UB anyone who runs to the bank and withdraws their cash is an idiot, and not helping the problem either I might ad. That being said the FDIC does need to raise the limit on insured deposits.

  54. Rezdog

    Brian You got mail.
One of my crazy friends just forwarded a video. lol

  55. Just saw it, Palin family vids fascinate me!

  56. chefsheila

LOL a picture says a thousand words…..maybe we should file that New Yorker with Tina!

  57. Good morning, in and out some today. Still home from surgery

  58. colleen

good morning, all. Steve, hope your surgery was for nothing too serious. trying to see the silver lining in this bailout cloud and working many hours since my retirement is apparently going south, keep telling myself I have marketable skills and love working…Michael Moore thinks it’ll work out, that the Dems will win by a never-before-seen landslide and they will fix the mess come January…time will tell

  59. Morning peeps.

Hey Steve I hear writing up blog posts is a really great way to deal with post dental surgery pain, wink wink!

  60. chefsheila

    Hi Colleen, Miss you.

  61. Brian, give me a few hours. I’m in a down cycle right now. I’ll get something to you by 2 PM EST if not before

  62. Coolio Steve, btw I hope you’re feeling better. Sheila excellent news on the Rasmussen!

  63. chefsheila

Yes Steve, I know I’ve been out a bit this week. Didn’t know you had an operation. Feel better soon.

  64. chefsheila

Well, I remember just in the last 20 years when the Market went over 10,000. I wonder if it will fall below now.

  65. chefsheila

YOu know how I feel about Biehner. I say “Lose it”. He’s a power corrupt, evil man.

  66. Don’t say “evil” Sheila, it makes you sound like George Bush.

    *ducks*

  67. chefsheila

I learn from the best 🙂

  68. chefsheila

Boehner didn’t get his job because he’s cute. BLAH. He got it because of all the STUFF he has on everyone after being so close to gingrich that you could smell him in Gingrich’s clothing.

  69. This is interesting and VERY ENCOURAGING. If you move all the swing states over to the candidate they are currently leaning to Obama easily wins the election. I love the fact that both Florida and Ohio are must wins for McCain but we don’t need them to win.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/maps/obama_vs_mccain/?map=10

  70. BTW you gotta love the fact that Obama is leading in both VA and NC. There is hope for the republic after all!

  71. horsedooty

have yall noticed how the rightwing kneejerk MF’s are now talking bi-partisanship when they don’t have the power and want to look like they are really trying to work things out. Of course, they still want it their way.

  72. doots it’s like when you hear them say “there will be plenty of time later on to asses where the blame lies”. Like we need more time to figure that one out!

  73. dnd

We can only hope that the Boner loses his seat. He’s a crook.
