    Why isn’t Condi on a plane to Mumbai or Karachi? This could be a flashpoint. I hope Hillary’s getting her diplomatic passport soon. We need to get these two nations to iron out their difficulties, and subdue those who are trying to encourage divisiveness.

    Just think, this could be the streets of America. The Republicans don’t know how close they came to Revolution once again in America.

    After decimating Our Military, Our Constitution and Bankrupting not only Our Economy but the Entire Global Economy of the World they should thank God that We The People didn’t take to the streets to get Our Country back.

    Instead we did it through the 2008 Election Process. And if they do screw Our Country again we might see many Republicans being given a Pat Tillman.

    It’s time we got out of other Governments Business and started taking care of Americas People and Our Country before any other Countries.

    Question for my good friend Sheila.

    Sheila, not sure you can answer this or if you can help me at all.

    I’m looking at a flat panel lcd and was wondering what you think a good buying price would be on it.

    It is a 52″ with a SRP of $3299.99 in the store at $2499.20 on sale this past Friday and Saturday marked down to $2299.20.

    I’m pretty confidant that if they don’t sell all of this model by December 20th. that I can still get it for the price it was being sold for this past weekend.

    They were originally selling it for $300 under the SRP plus a extra $200 off for $2799.99 before this past week when it was marked for the $2499.20 in the store.

    For the Thanksgiving weekend sale which they started on Wednesday they knocked off another $200 bringing it down to the $2299.20 figure above.

    I am hoping that it will go down further and I can get a couple of hundred or more knocked off the lower price as of today and save a few more bucks.

    Do you think it will come down anymore and if so by how much? Also since I do feel confidant that I can get it for the lowest price they have put on it what would you say is a good price following your belief that if it goes down to 50% off the SRP and still leave them a 10% to 18% profit would that price be?

    I know that its hard to figure out how bad they need the sales this year, however at a 50% markdown that would put the selling price around $1650 or so.

    How low do you think I would be able to ask for between the current price of $2299.20 and the 50% markdown of $1650.00 they would consider taking on this?

    If your unable to give me an answer I would fully understand, but I do hope with your knowledge of the retail world you may have some idea what I might be able to do for getting the best deal possible.

    Thanks in advance for taking the time to consider this and give me the best guess with the above facts I have stated.

    I think you should wait. I think as with the the mortgage bubble, this one’s going to pop too. This time next year, they’ll be a third the price.

    However, if your intent, at least wait until the first of the year. I got my LCD a couple of years ago, between Jan and March. There are major and deep sales on electronics then. Amazing sales.

    I already went and bought a Blu-Ray Home Theater system and the HDMI Cables as well as a new stand. The set I’m looking at is a Samsung and I have been slowly re organizing my living room for it.

    I have not got my coupons as yet for the converter boxes for my NTSC 34″ Phillips and since I’m not on cable or should I say a subscriber to Cable TV I need to get a new set that’s capable of over the air DTV until I can afford to subscribe to Cable. I prefer that to watching a converted digital to analog signal and my Samsung DVD VR will also be hooked up to the new set.

    I did find a Samsung Digital Receiver that I bought and have it hooked up currently on my set through the component video jacks and the picture is really good.

    My Phillips is a HDTV Monitor, however it does not have a digital tuner so the Receiver I bought will stay with this set when I get a new Digital HDTV as will as my DVD player which is a Phillips will stay with the old set and that is why I bought the Samsung 5.1 Home Theater system.

    The Samsung is a good television and I did a lot of looking over the last six months before deciding on this set so I already got a lot of time and money already invested in it.

    If the economy turns south next year the dollar my well become worth far less than it is now and I more than likely will not be in the position I’m currently in to even be able to buy a new set.

    I’m using money I have set aside for over ten years saving for a good entertainment system for when I retire in the next two to three years unless of course I lose my job and end up in early retirement.

    Also since my van is going to be eighteen years old next year I may need to find another good used auto by retirement time so I want to have at least a good television and dvd player since those are more important to me than going in debt to buy another auto and be making payments on it.

    Losing my job while making auto payments would more than likely mean losing my auto as well, so I’m thinking that I may as well get a good set now and it will be paid for with no debt or monthly payments to worry about.

    Thanks though for taking the time to offer your opinion and I will give it some thought. But I think that for me its definitely now or never as something always comes up and the money would be gone.

    Originally I was looking at the LN52A650 but this set has more to offer. As you read the features and specifications you will see why I chose this set over the other one and other brands.

    I can even use my computer as a server and play music or movies from it as well as pictures. There are other features as well and this is a really good set I like as the picture is superb as well.

    I post another comment showing the stand I bought and the Blu-Ray 5.1 Home Theater system as well.

    Then I’ll put a link for the Samsung Digital Receiver I bought for my Phillips set when I get the pages up on my computer.

    Forgot to say that I know I can buy a 52″ TV for several hundred dollars less than what I would be paying for this one, however I really like what Samsung offers.

    Hey, I got a 37 inch LCD……I could see it beautifully from most points of my house and even the sound was fantastic. I love it. You’d think a 37 inch is small, but its BIG in this format.

    Okay, got the laundry in the dryer and here are the two links for the Samsung Home Theater.

    The first is from Samsung and the second is from the store. I got it for $599.99 marked down form $799.99 and if the price goes lower in the next 30 days I get the lower price if I bring in my receipt for it.

    I also got two 6′ HDMI Cables for $74.99 each, they sell for $99.99 and I saved $50 Dollars on them. They gave me the price for the Three Foot Cables on the sale.

    Here is the info on my stand. It is a Tech Craft that says for most 50″ Televisions, however it will support the 52″ Samsung as it supports up to 154 pounds. The LCD with stand weighs a little over 68 pounds.

    I got it for $225 Dollars which I felt was a good deal. Also the other reason I decided on this one was style, looks and price. The other reason was due to having to go up to a 60″ stand which I really didn’t feel was necessary for this Television.

    Looks like a great TV. My advice is: find the manager and negotiate. If they can’t meet your “not to exceed” price, walk. Watching you head for the door sometimes gives them a change of heart 😉

    I don’t know what the inventory carrying costs are on something like that, but it’s got to be significant.

    Also, there are suppose to be some “cyber Monday” deals, so you may want to check online sites tomorrow.

    Okay everyone, last one I promise.

    Since I don’t have the converter boxes to convert digital to analog signal for over the air broadcasts I researched and found this Digital Receiver from Samsung as well.

    You hook it up through your Component Input on your television and it gives you over the air digital broadcasts instead of converting the signal to analog.

    I now receive 30 Digital over the air channels instead of the usual number available under the analog signal. This will stay with my Phillips when it gets moved to the bedroom.

    Also one other piece of information. Except for my DVD VR which is a Samsung as well, I downloaded and burned to DVD the firmware update for it and updated the firmware.

    All the other Samsung items can have their firmware updated directly from Samsungs website if they issue a firmware update for them.

    By the way I have a LG LCD monitor and after finding out the LG was involved in price fixing of their monitors I decided to stay away from them for electronic items. There were two other companies as well involved in this though I don’t remember the names.

    Alright, I’m done now and we can resume our scheduled programming.

    I am getting a surge strip, more than likely the Monster Surge or Line Conditioner. That goes for $199.99 and I have not seen them any lower anywhere.

    Also as I posted above I know that I can get it for $2299.20 no matter what. However I’m sure it may come down some more. Also if the price does go lower within thirty days of my purchase they will give me the lower price if I bring my receipt in same on my Home Theater as well.

    I have heard nothing but good things about hhgregg so I feel pretty confidant that I will end up with a good deal.

    As you can see by the links I posted showing the features and spec’s my retirement years will have some good enjoyment in them.

    Though I can get a 50″ LCD cheaper depending on the make and model I decided that Samsung was the way to go as there out front in technology right now. Cheaper that Zenith and Sony for good quality products.

    My first stereo was a combo type Panasonic and right now I guess I’m just into Samsung.

    Right now all my enjoyment is the computer and television watching TV and movies on my DVD.

    Now I can enjoy some Blu-Ray DVD’s as well. In fact I told my daughter to get me Kung Fu Panda and Indiana Jones and The Crystal Skull this year.

    I find the Blu-Ray DVD’s a little to expensive right now for me to buy them.

    By the way the Home Theater comes with the first Planet Earth DVD and I’m really going to enjoy watching it when I get everything set up.

    hmmm….There was time that This Week was limp, during the transition From Mr Brinkly to George. I’m so glad This Week has transitioned back to the strength that Brinkly brought to it.

    I would really like to see nightline do the same.

    Two shows that were the cream of the crop because of the quality their anchors brought to them.

    OH oh Nanny. Its a transition for sure.

    Just make sure its an LCD. Plasmas burn some picture elements onto the screen. If you are a watcher of News programs with ticker running across the bottom of the screen. Plasma tends to build a ghost visual on you screen.

    Someone like me, who watches MSNBC as a diet, would be toast.

    I agree with you, Sheila. Nightline used to be my favorite. I began watching when it was “America Held Hostage” (or something like that) back in ’79. Hubby used to call Ted Koppel my boyfriend; told everyone I went to sleep with Koppel every night at 11. 😀

    Even though it has a network input its basically for some programing it offers from Samsung. Weather, Stocks and some News as well as for updating the firmware.

    The part I like is that I can use my computer as a server and share pictures, music and movies off my computer to the TV without having to put them on a USB thumb drive and having the TV copy them to it’s internal flash memory.

    There are probably other makes and models that would offer this as well, but I like Samsung.

    In fact my ex has a 50″ Samsung floor model they bought from hhgregg in Indianapolis this year. They got a real good deal on the TV as they bought a floor display and they got the HDMI cable as well.

    Well got to really go now.

    I so agree! I can’t believe there are still so many Clinton haters out there. It seems like some of them want her to fail. They need to get real here. If Hillary fails, it will reflect poorly on Obama. She is very capable and Barack knows it. I’m even more impressed with him now that I see his cabinet picks.

    Hillary ran an awful campaign. My guess is that she won’t run State. She is smart, pragmatic, and by some accounts very charming one-on-one. I can easily think of a half-dozen people who are way more qualified for that position. That said, I think she has the capacity to do a great job at State. I’m rooting for her.

    Secretary’s of State never run the day to day of State. Its just not a reality. The non-political, State employees who have come up in the ranks do. You have to have consistancy with such and important department.

    90% of all positions in the running of the highest offices are run by non-political positions. That is the smartest option

    hmmm…monica had nothing to do with the country or Hillary for that matter. Most REASONABLE people don’t care who others fool around with. That whole situation was repugs run wild, trying to take down a very popular and effective president.
    They’d been trying for years and failed. Bill gave them something to talk about, but it was NOT an impeacable offense! A BJ is just that. No crime in it at all. Now what Bush has done!…that is a different story. Lots of impeachable offenses there.

    Nanny: agreed, the Monica impeachment turned out to be a great historical tragedy, as it made the Bush administration virtually bullet-proof — too difficult to put the country through successive impeachments, although the GOP administration deserved it. A tragedy, and we’re living with the meltdown now and in the coming years.

    Politico took its usual swipe, calling Bill Clinton a global rock star although regarded as a problem in his home country. (Not. But we don’t write for Politico.)

    Its just an argument on Shaheen and Powers. We weren’t in the background and in the know. I was just illuminating the obvious about campaigns in general.

    My point was that even in 2004, these changes would not have been highlighted. The Tit-for-tat calling someone out would not have been highlighted either..

    In 2004, most of the public didn’t know about these hand to hand combat strategies of a campaign.

    Its chess and its risk. thats what I was talking about. I was not interested in revisiting the wheres and whys of who was right.

    just trying to help you on the broader vision.

    Nanny: on Lewinsky: I always wondered why Clinton didn’t just acknowledge it had happened. He had a reputation for liking women; he was elected despite the Gennifer Flowers disclosures. Lots of people would have said “that hound dog” and it would have been a one week story.

    Then the Eliot Spitzer case.

    Although that was different — Spitzer was known as Mr. Law and Order AND Wall Street resented his interfering with their malfeasance; were happy to see him fall. Plus former atty general and interstate transport….

    But Clinton should not have tried to lie his way out, even though the GOP badly overreached (as they usually do).

    I too don’t think Monica was anybody’s business. But it gave the Republicans who were gunning for Clinton an opening. Clinton knew they were out to get him with the Whitewater special prosecutor, but he did it anyway. The impeachment was a huge distraction which prevented him from doing the work he should have been doing. That’s why I think he put his own interests ahead of the countries. I’m guessing he regrets that 😉

    Good point about Setting the Tone at State. Well, you know I have never been a Clintonite.

    However, in watching her in the Senate and being a New Yorker for that first 3 years. I can’t deny that I was very impressed with her running of her Senate seat.

    She has an never ending loyalty from her employees, even in her New York Office. She had a well known thoughtful and conciderate touch with everyone who worked for her.

    I have to commend her on that. She was also very active in the state. We heard feedback all the time.

    I can’t help but think that Clinton will do a great job at State too.

    Bottom Line for me. As long as Obama puts in some great apointments like Powers to assist her in forwarding the Obama Agenda, then I think we have a winner team in the State Department.

    Clinton has the talent to become one of our best SecStates, now lets see if she squanders it or builds on it.

    Sheila: you’re right — America is a lot more fluid, in terms of opportunity, and education is the key. That higher ed is becoming so expensive (and in some cases, so irrelevant!) is a real stratifier.

    Obama is an example of where smarts and a good education can take you (so are both Clintons, and Biden, and lots of others…); think keeping post- high school education available to the middle class is going to be important to him. And he’s such a good example, of working years and years and choosing your openings.

    Have you ever considered that is wasn’t Clinton who put his needs ahead of the country. Nothing he did,( i.e. get a bj from an intern that he knew was not a spy) was illegal or in any way against the US interests. It was purely a personal mistake. Hillary was not responsible, either. She was a victim. It was the repugs who put POLITICS and VINDICTIVENESS ahead of this country. It is they who had the Star circus in motion for years! Clinton did his job the entire time DESPITE all the obstacles put in his way. For heaven’s sake! When are we going to leave people’s private lives alone???? Unless a public official commits a crime or compromises national interests, it is no one’s business what he or she does in the bedroom or in any other private area. Clinton haters are really the one’s who didn’t put the needs of the country forst when they started their little witch hunt. And it disgusts me to see it continues.

    I agree mostly with you, nanny, and I agree that consensual sexual behavior should be off the radar screen and part of one’s personal life. Also agree the GOP totally abused their power. If not Monica, they would have been looking for something else.

    That said, Clinton aided and abetted the theft of his final 2 years by not exercising more self-control.

    Does anyone think he would have gotten off more easily by coming clean, admitting he’d strayed?

    He would have been ahead morally in that case. And remember: he was a good president and left office with a pretty favorable rating (save from those who could not see beyond the Lewinsky matter or hated him for other reasons).

    It was the last quality that made him vulnerable; most of the GOP could not compete with him on the first three.

    He governed from the center, which is where the country is.

    He was wrongly impeached, and neither he nor we deserved that process run amok. And taken out of the arsenal of possible remedies for dealing with Bush-Cheney gone more amok.

    But Bill Clinton knew he was running for president of the US. Not France.

    It was interesting laid out like that, wasn’t it? I just wish I could understand how they keep getting away with it. I find it hard to accept that so many people out there are motivated by fear and even hatred of that which is different. The idea that Sarah Palin is the next McCarthy heir, and has it in her genes to be such, gives me chills. It also convinces me that we must all work extemely hard to support Obama and ensure that his Presidency is successful. That may be our insurance policy.

    The Gabler link was interesting, but I didn’t get his connection with Goldwater. Goldwater, by any historian’s account, was a true conservative and a true patriot, as exemplified by when he told Nixon to resign. Nothing like what the Republican party is today.

    Your 4:17pm is absolutely right. Until Him Who Cannot Be Named leaves I won’t have any peace.

    As far as the shuttle goes if the night or day is clear I can see it in the sky. It is really cool watching it from my yard on night launches.

    I watch it lift off on TV and then after about a minute or so go outside and watch the sky light up. Unfortunately I missed this last launch as I had taken a nap and did not wake up in time to see it.

    Today I really didn’t get much done in re arranging the living room to make a place for my new toy. Once I start on the area its going in I lose my computer until I get it reset up.

    That is going to be hard for me to handle going without a computer to get online with. LOL…LOL…LOL…

    Your 5:16pm comment about the economy is close to the truth, however you must not forget that we pushed 541 Trillion Dollars worth of worthless paper into the Global Economy.

    Until it is just written off you will not stop whats coming. I don’t care how much money we or any other country throws into the financial markets or institutions, it just won’t matter in the long run.

    We are headed for a depression and there is nothing we or anyone can do about it.

    That’s a fact we better start accepting now so were not too surprised when it does hit us and the rest of the world.

    I suspect that you are correct, Anon-p. We’re facing a depression and are going to have to accept it. The real questions now are how deep will it be and how long will it last. On the positive side, if public works projects rebuild our infrastructure, especially schools,roads and bridges, that will be a good thing. If we manage to develop new, clean and renewable energy sources, the coming depression will have served a valuable purpose and, hopefully, enable us all to have a better future. It will be a hell of a way to achieve what we need for a better tomorrow. But we seem to always have to learn the hard way. Maybe next time we’ll thing ahead instead of only in the moment. I doubt it but I can dream….

    A lot of what happens will depend on how the Republicans decide to help Obama save our country and turn it around before it becomes a third world nation.

    If they decide to fight the rebuilding of our infrastructure and schools then we may be alright in the long run. However if they do not then we will have a rough road to travel down for a very, very long time.

    Did you mean, if they decide NOT to fight the rebuilding , we will be alright? If they fight Obama, it’s going to be very rough, I’m afraid. However, I do think Obama will win that fight.

    The people need to let there congress critters now we won’t take no BS from them and they better not continue to screw the American People because we won’t stand or take it anymore from them.

    The credit bubble will break soon just like the commercial Real Estate Market is going to do starting next year. There are some dark times coming and we all need to be ready for when it comes.

    That’s all I’m really trying to say.

    Dnd, what I gathered from the gablier piece was just a correction of what most Republicans publically say That Goldwater is the essence of what they see as the true conservative, when what they REALLY mean is what Gablier was pointing out.

    Its not Goldwater at all, its McCarthy and most Republicans won’t admit that they are really practicing McCarthyism, not Goldwater sytle politics.

    Who in fact had more moderate views.

    I see it the same way, Sheila. He is clear that Republicanism is McCarthyism; its central tenet in not based on ideology but rather a means to win at any cost. Mostly it means win by fear of “boogey men” that either don’t exist or don’t pose any threat. Rove is a master of the McCarthy method, as was Nixon and George HW Bush. Reagan was not.

    Yes, I found it so enlightening. Especially after Palin charged Obama with clear declarations that stank of McCarthism and NO ONE said a word. NOT EVEN McCain. That only means to me that McCain allowed himself to be spoonfed the Commies List too.

    That’s what the regugs do; it’s the only way they can win. Their positions on most issues are not in line with the majority so they have to make people afraid of the dems. Unfortunately, it has worked for them time and time again. I hope Obama’s win signals an end to that, but I doubt it. Once the country is back on track, people will become complacent again. When they don’t have economic ruin to fear, the repugs will find a way to instill fear of nonsense once again, just as they tried to do this time, albeit unsuccessfully.

    I’m afraid, if we are talking Depression, our children will not stray from voting in the years to come. A hard lesson of History. But our grandchildren may take their eyes of the ball. History repeating itself and all.

    I don’t look forward to these next few years.

    Its amazing that we are doomed to hearing the OTHER citizens griping that we are ruining it by making the deficit worse……

    I vote tomorrow for Martin, but I dont think he can overtake Chambliss. The ads Chambliss runs here are awful. Its complete fear mongering.
