Spoken just like a recovering smoker…..very hard to say “I quit” until you get a few years down the road.
Dnd and all…..is that today all ready? my how time flies.
I just had my second anniversary, Sheila. I quit December 4, 2008.
I think I have a case of pseudomembranous colitis, I’m getting tired of this bullshit! Thanks for the pearl harbor reminder dnd, and reminding us how a real leader acts in a time of national crisis!

I just came off a round of Clindamycin that the dentist put me on, which I have since learned should not be given to people with crohns and is the main culprit in C-diff.
Hey! Nanny, I quit in 2005…..it was totally tuff and I’ve been quitting for years, but this time I think I’ve licked it…..but…..there are times where it becomes a danger of starting again…..have to be vigilant always
Well, Gregory is the guy now. I wonder how long it will take him to develop a following. On average it has taken at least a year and sometimes 3.

You have that right! I would not be happy with that dentist if I were you. Have you called your doctor? Flagyl or Vancomycin are the drugs most effective for C-diff. The sooner you get a firm diagnosis and start treatment, the better.

Sheila, I haven’t toughed a cig since the day I decided to quit. I figure I’m a nicotine addict and always will be. Thus, I can’t even have a drag of one or I could be hooked again. So I take it one day at a time, But I have to say, I really have no desire to smoke anymore.

Dec. 7 (Bloomberg) — President-elect Barack Obama said the economic crisis will worsen before a recovery takes hold, and the government must act swiftly to stimulate job creation.
“Things are going to get worse before they get better,” Obama said in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” program broadcast today.
Obama, who takes office Jan. 20, said his advisers are still working to determine the size of the economic stimulus package needed to pull the country out of the longest recession since 1982. “But it is going to be substantial,” he said, without giving an estimate.
While calling the federal budget deficit he will inherit “enormous,” Obama said economic recovery is more important, “and that means that we can’t worry, short term, about the budget deficit.”
dnd, I was so concerned about Brian that I forgot to tell you that I’m so glad you posted that video. We need good leadership now more than ever. FDR’s response to Pearl Harbor is an excellent reminder of what that kind of leadership can do for this country. So thanks for the reminder.

I have a secret weapon for times like that. When I quit, Canyon wrote an essay about how proud he was of me for quitting. So on those occasions when I had an “urge” I re-read his essay and that did it for me. It reminded me why I quit in the first place. I also promised him I’d never start again. So, NO WAY will I break that promise.
WRT smoking. I quit in 96. Used the “one step at a time” patches. I refuse to smoke anything cigars pipe or pot. Certainly no crack. I probably was temped a bit for about 2 years. Just out of the blue, I would think, “Damn, a cigarette would be good now.” Just out of the blue no signs or anything. Must be some sort of imprinting in the brain. my immediate response to that was, “WTF, are you crazy? You can’t have that now or ever.” After 12 years the only time I really think about it is like now. Hang in there it does get better.

Well I can’t take Flagyl, I’ve had some neuropophy (spell check) issues with it in the past, number finger tips. I’d rather not take Vancomycin either as it can lead to hearing loss. I think my case is pretty mild and I’m going to see if I can clear it up with probiotics as I’m not running fever. I have a cousin with sever MS, she’s been dealing with c-diff for seven months now, I’m hoping I won’t go down that road!
going to go see Milk this afternoon, I hear it’s a real tear jerker and Sean Penn does an amazing job!

Just got off the phone with one my clients who’s a big shot GI he said it was fine to see if this resolves it’s self, sounds like a mild case!

yup, WordPress went by the computer used. Something like that might have helped enormously on the other blog that must not be named.
Brian: noticed that I got a pink design from posting from my other computer, which I rarely use, even though it’s registered with the same user name BUT it’s registered with the second of two email addresses I use. (Laptop is registered with the mac address.)
Maybe I’m registered twice, or maybe wordpress notes which IP address or computer you communicate from.
And congrats to Obama for his pick of Shinseki. Not to mention Shinseki himself.
And how cool to appoint an American general of Japanese ancestry to your cabinet, in a defense related capacity, and have the news heavily reported on December 7.

It’s also a bit of justice for Shinseki that Obama chose him and made a point of saying that Shinseki would always fight for the troops. After the way he was treated by the Bushies, it was nice to see him lauded. He deserves it.

Another advantage to having Shinseki at VA. the closer you are to the personal needs of troops, the better to advise the President of the real state of the troops.

I wonder if we might see more deaths by CO2 poisoning too, from misused or damaged space heaters and outdoor generators being used in an enclosed space.

I had the same reaction to that portrait, Sheila. But, I thought it looked just like him, the real him…..a small man even more diminished by his failure.

Matthews staying at MSNBC?
Chris Matthews is expected to sign a long-term contract to remain as host of MSNBC’s “Hardball,” according to Politico’s Mike Allen.
On Wednesday, I reported that Matthews was negotiating with MSNBC, although the network and Matthews’ agent declined to comment.
Sources told Politico that it was unclear whether the talks had to do with reupping at the network or dealing with a possible Senate run. Either way, the talks were coming early, since Matthews’ contract isn’t up until June 2009.
While political operatives considered Matthews more likely to leave MSNBC, I heard skepticism from network sources, with some feeling that the Senate talk was a way of increasing his worth. It’s widely believed inside the network that Matthews will get a pay cut from his $5 million annual take.
“There’s no cost to it, and helps him in [contract] negotiations,” one network colleague told Politico last week. This source, who’d spoken to Matthews about running, considered the chances “slim” that he actually would.
