Compared to the rest of the world, we are not in the worst shape in the world when it comes to food safety, but why be satisfied? Look at the salmonella problems that came from peanut production and the importation of cheap and unsafe foods from China when it could be grown and shipped locally with proper support. I’m glad the Obama people are taking a long hard look at it.
The President has made an error here and there, and I don’t agree with his mortgage policy, but he is on the right course.
Hey hipster, what don’t you like about the president’s mortgage policy? Being a renter here it’s not a big issue for me, so I’m curious.
The food issue is just another symptom of what was so wrong with the Bush years, if you think government is a bad thing you’re not going to give it the tools it needs to function properly, Katrina is a perfect example of that.
“Being a renter here it’s not a big issue for me, so I’m curious.”
It’s because it’s huge component in driving down the economy, so it impacts everybody.
I’m with Hip on food and drug safety. I’m also concerned with food that comes from Central and South America.
I think you misunderstood what I’m saying dnd, or I wasn’t clear. I certainly feel people should be helped to stay in their homes. I got the feeling from what AH said he didn’t like the particulars of Obama’s plan, I’m curious what it is about the plan he doesn’t like.
Happy Saturday Everyone!
Let’s not for get the dog food and dog treats that came into the country from China and killed so many pets.
All the fruit that comes in for South America…who knows what chemicals they are allowed to use down there….?
And don’t forget the tainted infant formula either!
Obama’s Housing Plan: Will It Help You?
If you believe you stand to benefit from Obama’s housing plan, go to financialstability.gov to get a comprehensive list of the paperwork you need to bring to your lender.
I have a problem with it because I am under a pretty serious mortgage that I will not be getting any help with. Having said, and realizing that I brought it up, I would rather focus on the positives regarding our President. I would rather have one I agree with 90% than 10%. In uncertain policy decisions, I trust Obama. I learned NOT to trust he who came before Obama (don’t want to write his name).
Amen to the 90/10 ratio steve, btw happy Pi day everyone.
Weather Update for BCers?
North Georgia Mountain- dreary and rainy at 45-50 degrees
“Pi Day and Pi Approximation Day are two holidays held to celebrate the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is technically March 4, but observed on March 14 (3/14), due to π being roughly equal to 3.14 and the general population being unaware of numeric radixes. Pi Approximation Day is observed on July 22, due to π being roughly equal to 22/7.”
Personally, as far as transcendental numbers go, I prefer e, the base of the natural logarithm.
But on this Pi day, I’d like to celebrate with one of Nannymm’s apple pies 😉
I’m with Hip. 90/10 is better than 10/90.
pie…what’s not to love…..
pi -day ? are there presents involved? 🙄
pi day, today is march 14th, 3.14
I know that..**bigger eye roll**….I want to know how it’s celebrated…..duh.
lol – just when I was about to say something nice….lol
Re BC nuts and bolts: Brian, you are doing a great job. I know it is a big undertaking and it takes patience, and a lot of time, so sincere thanks.
And to all you fine folks here on the Back Channel, I am pleased to know you and share your company. I’d like to give a big thank-you-shout-out to all the contributors for their inspiring and thought provoking threads.
pi day is too serious for crass celebrations, it should be spent quietly contimplating the wonders of the universe, for if there is a god I believe his (or hers, another big eye roll, people who worry about the gender of god annoy me) language is math.
Yes, thanks Brian for BC. I do appreciate it and should post here more often
awe shucks, you guys!
“God gave us the integers, all else is the work of man”.
I don’t buy Kronecker’s idea. There is mystical beauty in transcendental and irrational numbers. Why else would we be so fixated on them?
I think physics is the language of philosophy and spirituality. And without mathematics, there would be no physics. So you’re probably right that mathematics is the language of God.
Math isn’t subjective, it really is the only means of expression that isn’t. If one is to believe in a good wouldn’t he have to speak in terms that aren’t subjective? (should have lit that last bowl?)
it’s a binary universe trev!

Four Entire Humans talking to themselves. Is this a blog or one table at McDonalds?
Nick, you’re back, I guess now that we have our own full time troll it means we’ve arrived, but why not use you’re regular nick of animal control?
I was feeling a little down earlier, but watching this again picked me right up. If you ever need a tonic this will do the trick!
nice move displaying the home cities and states of visitors without their permission. very professional.
oh, and displaying bogus hit stats without a date range. good thing you don’t have to worry about advertisers. they wouldn’t even give you a meeting.
80,000+ hits since the blog started last June. Feel free to ask any question you like. And you’ve mentioned your dislike twice already of the blog traffic widget, and yet you keep coming back, this of course can only lead us to conclude it’s not as troubling to you as you make it out to be. Yes?
talk to yourself much? get used to it loser
I think I’m going to take a nap, feel free to hang animal, like I said every successful blog needs a troll. Just don’t play with matches and everything will be just fine.
As Oil and Gas Prices Plunge, a Frenzy of Drilling Ends
The number of oil and gas rigs deployed to tap new energy supplies across the country has plunged to less than 1,200 from 2,400 last summer, and energy executives say the drop is accelerating further.
talk about a plunge, unlikely, how about this blog going down the tubes, thanks to your misanthropic host?
Times Are Tough on Wall Street and Wisteria Lane
Now, however, the real-life financial situations being used for scripts stand out for their directness in addressing the economic plight of average Americans.
Actually, there’s not a blog “host” who sets the tenor. We are an egalitarian blog.
Look, you guys had something good here, and still could, but you let this bizarre hate-filled fool turn it into his pathetic excuse for a life. Get rid of him and you’ll make it as a worthy blog. Keep him in charge, and it simply goes away. Your choice.
I don’t know of any hate-filled fools, so I am perplexed by your sudden arrival and your message….care to explain further?
Five Beginners’ Steps to a Greener Home
A RECENT Amazon.com search for “green home” pulled up more than 15,000 book titles. Who has time to read them all? So this week, The Green Home tracked down Eric Corey Freed, the author of “Green Building & Remodeling for Dummies,” and asked him to distill this growing cottage industry of green advice into five must-do steps.
sure, unlikely, are you aware that he sent obscene messages to several of those he apparently hates, with his broadcast emails touting your bogus hit numbers? get a clue, this guy is ruining any hopes of this blog ever having a chance.
How generous of you to show your concern….lol…..you certainly realize how super-silly your whole gig is , I know you do ….
you are kind of a funny-guy aren’t you?
i’m just saying this could be a great blog if it weren’t for your host. just my opinion as a regular reader, and with that i’ll take my leave, wishing you the best
And again, I have no idea who you are slamming here…..seems to me you may have a few unresolved issues…I am only guessing…..
Feel free to continue, I’ll be back in a few. I’ve always heard talking is good therapy.
Don’t hurt yourself.
Come back soon….and thanks for speaking your mind…it is appreciated. 🙂
you know exactly what i’m talking about, unlikely. your own host is the one with issues, and your blog suffers because of it.
We do not have a host. That is my point. So it is really hard for me to follow what you are saying, about a host that doesn’t exist.
btw, off topic…..do you know anything about American University?
If the blog is suffering because of someone here you do not care for, than that’s going to remain an issue for you….
this is an open blog, we do not ban people.
come on giveitupfolks… help me with the American University question…..1 to 10 , 10 being good…..how would you rate it? just an overall rating…thanks
You don’t have a host? Are you blind, deaf or dumb, Unlikely? He is manipulating you and everyone else here. You are all better than that. Why else do you thing this blog is falling apart?
We do not have a host, I explained that in an earlier post. Blind deaf or dumb?…..maybe all three, that makes no difference…you are the one with the complaint….You seem to have a lot of emotional energy vested here….are you sure this is about the “well-being ” of this blog and not something that rattles around in your own mind?
and who says this blog is falling apart? You?
In any case giveitupfolks, you are welcome here anytime….if this blog falls apart too much for you…you can let us know….
How’s that for a solution?
In the meantime, please be sure to read upcoming threads, and participate in the discussions when you feel you want to.
In Italy, a Vending Machine Even Makes the Pizza
Over the last decade, Mr. Torghele, 56, an entrepreneur in this northern Italian city who first made money selling pasta in California, has developed a vending machine that cooks pizza. The machine does not just slip a frozen pizza into a microwave. It actually whips up flour, water, tomato sauce and fresh ingredients to produce a piping hot pizza in about three minutes.
unlikely, if you and others here cannot see that you’re letting a vindictive misanthrope run this place and marginalize your worthy efforts, then so be it. i tried to warn you.
Well then, it’s settled….. you should be able to sleep well tonight knowing you made your best effort to save the BackChannel….and protect my worthy efforts…
kind of charming….lol
“this is an open blog, we do not ban people”
who would you ban? you’ve only had four different people on here today, plus me. you can’t afford to ban anyone or this place wouldn’t even exsit. wonder why?
It’s just a damn shame that so many well-meaning people with something to offer let a sadistic maniac seduce you into thinking that this site was about you instead of his own psychotic delusions of grandeur.
Hi Burrito. Just got back from the ski slopes. What a great day! The kids had snow shovel races and cardboard sled races. My grandson and his friend made a sled and raced. They placed 4th out of 30 sleds! There was a huge bonfire, a BBQ, and a live band. The day ended with a torch light parade and fireworks. It was the unofficial end of the ski season. 😦
*stretches and yawns*
Well that ended up turning into a very long nap!
did you get pics nanny? post them on facebook so we all can see!
BTW, welcome to the BackChannel Blog, Giveituupfolks. It’s nice to see you here. Why don’t you tell us a bit about yourself so we can all get to know you better?
I forgot my camera, Brian. So I bought one of those disposable ones. Will get the pics developed tomorrow.
A very irate aide to Gov. Sarah Palin contacted ABC News today to explain why his boss’s 31 requests for earmarks in the fiscal year 2009 budget, totaling $197 million, represent a victory for fiscally conservative values
