If it’s Sunday, it’s my favorite curmudgeon, Ed Quillin. This week Ed writes about the Tax Day Tea Bag protests:

The Boner on This Week. Speaking of greenhouse gases, says those who say CO2 is a carcinogen are wrong. Huh? Goes on to say that “when cows do what they do” they produce CO2. Um, that’s methane.

    What a maroon…

  3. Well hard to find fault with this week’s address, but I’m sure “those people” will.

  4. Crowd Forms Against an Algorithm

On Monday, Amazon.com confessed to “an embarrassing and ham-fisted cataloging error” that caused thousands of books — a large proportion of them gay and lesbian themed — to lose their sales rankings, making them difficult to find in basic searches.

On a lighter note, “Snow Dogs of Colorado.”

Pooches playing in this week’s big snow storm:

  7. The Obama Campaign, Updated

In 2008, Barack Obama’s team built a formidable political organization, but the question now is whether this campaign structure can support the president.

  8. Hi gang…

Well I’m sitting here at my backup computer that runs Windows 98SE since my other computer has another problem.

I also just today installed Opera on this and it hard getting use to it. I tried to install Firefox however its not compatible with 98SE so I am trying Opera.

My power supply or so I suspected was starting to have a noisy fan. To make sure I removed the side case fan that sat in front of the heatsink fan so I could verify that it was indeed the power supply fan and not the heatsink or side case fan making the noise.

I had already decided to replace the power supply and had purchased a new Thermaltake 500w power supply because of the fan and it was one of only three I could find that would have enough 12v and 5v connectors that I needed.

I need six 12v connectors and two 5v connectors and most of the newer power supplies do not have the molex style that I needed.

The other two were a 600w Thermaltake and a 550w Antec, however I could not find those here and I will not order online.

The store I did get my power supply from did have the 600w one, however I determined that the 500w one I bought would be sufficent so that is why I went to the one I bought.

Anyway, back to the story I removed the side case fan and found that I had two {2} leaking capacitors on my motherboard, one on either side of the heatsink.

So I unplugged it and have it sitting to take in with me to work tomorrow. I will remove the motherboard and let Chuck a co-worker replace the bad caps for me and install my new power supply when I put it back together.

Hopefully we have those capacitors and I can have it up and running by tomorrow night. If not I’ll be using this box until I do.

I’m still disappointed that those who administered the Torture of prisoners will not face any consequences for their actions.

It seems that not to many people remember that we imprisoned and executed many people that were prosecuted during the Nuremberg Trials for the very same crimes.

The defense that they were following orders or carrying out what they were told was legal was not an acceptable defense.

No one is above the Law if indeed we are a nation of Laws. To not prosecute those who committed War Crimes leaves that possibility of others rearing their ugly head and doing it again.

If no one is prosecuted than President Obama will be complicite in the cover up of War Crimes and he will be remembered in History for his complicity.

I pray that this is not the case, however it is looking more and more like it will be. How sad that the new President would violate the very Laws he also has sworn to uphold.

    How very sad indeed.

Anyway that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

    God Bless.

  9. Sounds like you had a nice full day of tinkering AP.

  10. nannymm

Hi A-P. I share your hope that we will eventually see prosecutions for those who ordered torture.

    anon-p,
Have Chuck test those caps. I’ve found the advertised tolerances not all that accurate.

Good that you are fixing it. These days people would just toss the motherboard or buy a new machine. Green is back!

  12. New Thread at 9:00 Eastern.

  13. Brian…

Indeed I did have a very full day. I also had leg cramps again which I think is caused by my bad back. Disc problems from a low back unjury years ago.

    dnd…

The caps are bulged and leaking. Yesterday my mouse and keyboard froze and that’s when I pulled the side case fan off and found the bad caps.

We have had to change a lot of caps on the Dell GX270 computers, all three versions. Desktop, Tower and Small Form Factor boxes.

It’s possible that mine are just caused from power surges and age since they do not appear to be the same type or brand of conterfit caps that were in all motherboards made a few years back.

So luckly I may be alright and no permenent damage was done.

It looks like Spain will be carrying the ball on its six possible prosecutions of former Bush\Cheney War Criminals.

See link below for many stories about the crimes and possible prosecutions, including the Lawyers Guild seeking disbarment for Lawyers. I’ll post two of the links and you can scroll through the site and decide what stories you want to read.

The post under the Lawyer story is on Spain going forward with its investigation and possible prosecutions of the Six Sick War Criminals of the Bush\Cheney War Criminal Family.

    God Bless.

    anon-p,
Talk to your doc about the leg cramps. Cold be DVT. You don’t want to get a pulmonary embolism.

  15. Could also be a lack of potassium in your diet, eat an orange or banana and see if that helps.

  16. dnd

Broccoli is a great source of potassium.
