THANK YOU ~ BevnTempe

The words on my favorite t-shirt say:  “Writing opens minds, builds bridges, and improves lives.”  Those words are the original tag line for the Salt Lake Community College Community Writing Center, founded and directed by my daughter.

Places such as the SLCC Community Writing Center (CWC) “support, motivate and educate people of all abilities and educational backgrounds who want to use writing for practical needs, civic engagement and personal expression. They provide opportunities to enhance writing abilities through such programs as Writing Coaching, Writing Workshops, the DiverseCity Writing Series and Writing Partnersfor people in the Salt Lake City community.

The contributors to BC are doing a great job with threads and posts.  Some people have the natural ability to express their thoughts using the written word. Others do not.  That’s OK.  I’m one who often needs help expressing my ideas when writing.  If you’ve just reading this thread, and have thought about writing but just can’t quite do it, keep trying.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help.  There are places similar to the one mentioned above, that provide that help.  This blog has given me confidence to express myself even though I was very hesitant in the beginning.

To those all of you who organize and contribute to this blog, Facebook, Twitter; to anyone who keeps a journal, uses email or snail mail to keep in touch with others; to those who write notes to themselves, THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS.  You are writing!

Bill Clinton Heading to North Korea

Former President Bill Clinton was headed to North Korea to
negotiate the release of two American television journalists
who were sentenced to 12 years of hard labor for illegally
entering North Korean territory, according to a person who
    was briefed on the trip.

  2. Good info Bev and kudos to your daughter for her good works.

  3. Bev…

Though I find it hard to believe even now, I was ask to join a site where all there authors or writers come from around the world. They said they liked my style and that my posts were well put together.

I didn’t though since I had reached the saturation point in what I wrote about. Mainly politics.

I got burned out and even today I still feel that way. Of course it could just be old age, but no matter what it is I’ve reached it.

Times have changed and like so many others I find it hard to still say what I think and feel about the events happening right now today in our country.

I’m sure that there are many who feel the same way I do and they don’t express themselves either since they assume that it don’t really matter what they think.

While that may not be true the picture that is seen daily says indeed our voices don’t matter as the politicians continue to sell American Citizens down the river for their own advantage.

Its good to know that there are still those who can put together a whole sentence that is understandable and there is a lot of talent right here at BC.

Good post Bev. Keep up the good work and…

    God Bless.

Well done, Bev. And, yes, congratulations to your daughter for her work at a community college. It’s nice to see and hear about the work of community colleges from the Vice President’s wife to so many others who are finally acknowledging the work of community colleges.

Keep on writing, A-P. You’re one of a kind with a strong political and spiritual point of view.

Bill Clinton went all the way to North Korea to shop for President Obama’s birthday present?

Excellent post, Bev. Your daughter has done a wonderful thing and should be commended for it. Writing skills are essential no matter what one does for a living these days. Personally, I think schools need to encourage, and even require, students to write daily in the primary and secondary grades. As with any other skill, it is practice that brings proficiency and confidence.

    What Nannymm said.
Whenever college age kids ask me what courses they should take (they’re looking for science/engineering advice) I tell them writing courses. This is always a surprise. I tell them you can be the best {fill in the blank} ever but no one will ever know, including your boss, if you can’t communicate effectively.

Hillary’s in Kenya. Is she looking for Obama’s birth certificate?

The birther buzz from Bill-O is that he thinks the left likes the birthers as they portray the right as a bunch of loonies. The conspiracy theory is the right likes the birthers because they make people like Bill-O and Coulter sound almost reasonable.

  10. nannymm

Bill-O and Coulter sound almost reasonable?
    Never gonna happen, dnd. 😉

  11. Yeah like we need the birthers to tell us the right is bat shit crazy!

Yesterday, someone here was talking about McCain being able to say what he wants as a grumpy old man. I responded by saying he was running again as the Senator from AZ. On this morning’s NPR station for AZ, a commentarian said the reason why he was voting against Sonia Sotomayor in a heavily Hispanic populated state was because he wanted the base, right-wing vote in the 2010 primary, which doesn’t include too many Hispanics. So, he’ll probably get through the primary as a right-winger and then face, hopefully, a strong Democrat as a moderate. McCain is probably wishing the primary was already over by now so maybe he could play the part of the “maverick” again.

  13. nannymm

eprof, “play” is the key word in what you just said. To McInsane and his ilk, this is all a big game and they’re playing it. Too bad they can’t take this seriously and act like mature adults. Maybe then we could get something done.

  14. Such is the dilemma for a lot of “moderate” repugs, what a shame!

  15. dnd

Isn’t one of McCain’s primary opponents one of those Minutemen? That might explain his no vote on Sotomeyor. If so, pretty lame.

ps. Dbacks did a good job against the Mets.

Obama walks into the WH briefing room to give Helen Thomas birthday cupcakes. He gave her a birthday smooch too. She turns 89 today.

As the political debate about how to pay for and pass health reform grows louder and more contentious, we shouldn’t lose sight of the reason we’re even having this conversation: We have a huge, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve the lives of all Americans, insured and uninsured alike.

$10 says this clip will be parodied on SNL. The only question will be who plays Orly.

  19. Bev, how proud you must be of your daughter…. 🙂

Orly is her own actress…..looking for her spotlight.

  20. Orly is a menace and should be treated as nothing less!

Hi Burrito! It’s good to see you. Sorry I missed the party the other night. When’s the next one? We can all be there to annoy that lovely neighbor of yours. 🙂

  22. Hey Nanny, How the heck are you????

yes lovely suburbia, where everyone thinks that sun rises especially for them individually.

  23. next party end of Aug in NYC

  24. we’re all meeting at UB’s hotel suite, open bar and shrimp cocktail of course!

  25. nannymm

I’m doing really well, UB. How ’bout you?
As for suburbia and the suburban life, I hate it. Give me city life or small town life. I can be happy with either. But the burbs are neither fish nor fowl; they lack the excitement and convenience of the city and the peacefulness and friendliness of a small town. As far as I can tell, the burbs have little to offer.

  26. nannymm

    I’ll be there!

  27. TempeBev

Thank you everyone – AP – great story. Keep writing!

  28. dnd

Sra Burrito wants to go to McSorleys. Great ale with limburger cheese, soda crackers, onions and their killer mustard.

  29. yes I think that’s the ticket dnd…..

  30. killer mustard, or the onions must really stink that place up according to Brian

  31. the only thing good about my suburbia, is it has edges…and I am really close to them….the river, and the lake……only one child left in the school system….he’s party will be louder next year just for spite….lol

  32. 200 years of spilled beer doesn’t do much for the smell of the place either!

  33. “we’re all meeting at UB’s hotel suite, open bar and shrimp cocktail of course!”

lol the “suite” part is unlikely

  34. maybe they need to clean with “oxy” something

  35. they need to torch the place!

  36. dnd

    Sra Burrito,
They make their mustard with mustard powder mixed with their ale. It is a beautiful, albeit powerful epicurean delight.

  37. I think I just need to go after hearing so much about it. 🙂 from both of you.

  38. Ok who here speaks Korean?

  39. nannymm

dnd, check your mail. I just sent you something.

  40. UB wear waterproof shoes, just in case some frat boy finds he needs to hurl.

  41. Lou Dobbs: “All Of The Folks At CNN Are Just Terrifically Supportive” (VIDEO)

Well color me surprised, Lou Dobbs has found a supporter in Don Imus.

  42. Well it looks like another RW Gun Nut killed 4 people in a latin gym in PA.

“BRIDGEVILLE, Pa. — A Pittsburgh television station says a shooting at a suburban health club has left four people dead, including the shooter.”

I guess we’ll be hearing from the NRA how the people working out should have been armed and its their fault that 4 people died because they were not carrying concealed weapons permits and carrying guns.

  43. dnd

Might be tough to be carrying a concealed gun when you’re in the pool 😉
