Labor Day ~ dnd

its-labor-daylaborday1882nyclabor-dayAh, Labor Day.  The unofficial end of summer.  Hot dogs on the grill.  Kids are back to school.  Baseball is getting down to the wire and football is ramping up.

Ok, so Labor Day isn’t much about it’s original intentions to celebrate the labor movement.  We choose, ironically, to celebrate by taking the day off while many of those who labor have to work.  That being said, we can celebrate because of the advances made by the labor movement has to a large degree removed much of the need for a labor movement.

So while you’re grilling hamburgers today, and enjoying time off with friends and family, we should all celebrate and give thanks to those courageous Americans who have gone before us in making this day possible.

  1. Morning peeps, and happy Labor Day. Yes you’re right dnd, but there is work still be done, in terms of benefits we still lag far behind the rest of the industrialized world.

The page that has the text of tomorrow’s speech to school kids ain’t working. Wonder if it’s a DOS attack.

  5. dnd

    Never mind. Here it is:

Sounds like he’s trying to indoctrinate our school kids into Socialism 😉

  6. You gotta wonder what the “response” to his speech would be, “cut school and fritter away your youth”.

Now the wingnuts will just claim that they pressured Obama into changing his remarks. One way or another they plan to claim victory. Truth be damned as always with those crazies.

  8. dnd

Seems to me that message that schools who aren’t showing this is: “We don’t care about your education.”

I just read the speech. It’s excellent. No reasonable person will find a single objectionable line it. Unfortunately, the crazies aren’t reasonable.

After reading the text of the education pep talk speech, it’s amazing that certain people/groups thought it would be “worshipful,” have a secret agenda, and all the other horrible opinions that POTUS would inflict on school aged children. It just boggles the mind. Nanny is probably right, the nuts will claim their concern caused O to alter his speech. Some people in this country are down right scary.

PS. Have you heard about the pastor in the Tempe area who delivered a sermon about “why I hate Barack Obama” and says he prays for O’s death. He is the pastor of the idiot who wore the assault rifle in the crowds of the VFW convention a couple of weeks ago in Phx. The church is “Faithful Word.” And I thought Texas was crazy.

  16. Saddly crazy and stupid isn’t geographically dependent. CNN is reporting the story right now Bev.
