The Berlin Wall – 20 years later

content_berlin_wall

The most significant symbolic event in the fight against totalitarianism  in the latter part of the 20th century occurred twenty years ago today.  Backchannel blog researchers have unearthed the untold story on how it went down:

Reagan:  Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!

Gorbachev:  Dude-ski, no problemo.  Anything else?

  1. Apparently the newsmax crowd isn’t happy the prez isn’t attending the ceremonies in Berlin, they consider it a slap in the face of the Reagan legacy.

I’m sure St. Ronnie is there.

  3. nannymm

As for the Newsmax crowd, are they EVER happy with Obama? If so, I must have missed it.

  4. dnd

Sec of State Clinton is in Berlin for the ceremonies. I think that’s appropriate.

“Apparently the newsmax crowd isn’t happy the prez isn’t attending the ceremonies in Berlin, they consider it a slap in the face of the Reagan legacy.”

I wonder if they realize that the Berlin wall came down during the G.H.W.Bush presidency?

  6. nannymm

They don’t care,d. They attribute it to St. Ronnie.

  7. I wonder if you can get a little statue of him to glue to the dashboard.

Westboro Baptist Church Protests Outside Obama Girls’ School

Westboro Baptist Church, the fringe-of-the-fringe anti-gay group famous for protesting at military funerals and claiming that God is punishing the country for its tolerance of homosexuality, was spotted this morning protesting outside Sidwell Friends, the school attended by Sasha and Malia Obama.

“Dem Women Threaten Health Care Passage Over Stupak Amendment”

“Not even George W. Bush and the Republican Congress tried to do what the Democratic majority under Speaker Pelosi, the first woman in history to hold that position, did this weekend. That’s how bad the betrayal is.

I’m hearing that Pres. Obama evidently made pledges to certain House members that the Stupak amendment would not be in the final bill. He needs to keep that promise. But in the end, it’s up to us to make sure that with or without the President, women do not lose their full civil rights under the law.

Oh, and by the way, Sen. Claire McCaskill doesn’t know what she’s talking about (brief thoughts here, with more to come on the podcast). And since she’s so close to the President there is reason to worry.

None of us are taking any chances.”

Hello MR! I hope your well, dogs too…Ha,I think of you every time i pull out my glittery Disco fans..HA,HA..

I was just going down my bookmarks list and decided to give you a look..I read Taylor Marsh all the time since she moved to DC..I saw dnd’s remarks and decided to post Taylor’s latest..I’m glad there are Liberals like Taylor who say it like it is..This here worshiping at the feet of Dems and the President isn’t good..I say hold there feet to the fire, hell if it hadn’t have been for hero’s like Rep.A.Weiner ,we wouldn’t even have the hint of a Public Option we do…Lame, Public Option is more like it..Single Payer,Single Payer….

  13. nannymm

Hi, Tony. I’m a fan of Taylor, too. We need more liberals to speak out. I’m getting tired of the moderates always getting what they want.

  14. I’m sure you and your disco fan and doing swimmingly together and I’m also certain that dnd appreciates your feedback.

  15. Tonyb

    Hey, Nanny,Brian

Its really important Liberals speak up..If we continue to do so, the moderates will not win out.I also think Liberals have the ability, unlike the moderates(moderates take no risks) to help make President Obama a great President.Liberalism is the key for President Obama to become a transformational President..

  16. A fast comment than I must take leave to watch K.O.

I use to link to Taylor Marsh, however when she became a hatefest on Obama I removed her link.

The only man she don’t hate is Larry Johnson and I don’t read his site any more since he too was a Obama hater.

And I sometimes wonder if Johnson was also a Chimpy supporter though he supposedly was upset with Chimpy and War Criminal Heinrich Himmler Cheney when they outed a NOC which Johnson was at one time.

But then again maybe it was all an act by Johnson to cover up that he worked for them and is probably a War Criminal as well.

    Anyway take care and …

    God Bless.

Blackwater Approved $1 Million in Iraqi Payments After ’07 Shootings

Top executives at Blackwater Worldwide authorized secret
payments of about $1 million to Iraqi officials that were
intended to silence their criticism and buy their support
after a September 2007 episode in which Blackwater security
guards fatally shot 17 Iraqi civilians in Baghdad, according
    to former company officials.

Four former Blackwater executives said in interviews that
Gary Jackson, who was then the company’s president, had
approved the bribes, and the money was sent from Amman,
Jordan, where Blackwater maintains an operations hub, to a
top manager in Iraq. The executives, though, said they did
not know whether the cash was delivered to Iraqi officials or
the identities of the potential recipients.

I’m very happy the Code Talkers are going to be in the NYC Veteran’s Day parade. There aren’t many of them left, and they certainly deserve public praise and honor for their outstanding contribution to WWII.
