Stories of 2009

Undoubtedly this week the news channels will be filled with stories recounting the major events of 2009, so naturally I’m going to add to the deluge.  For me the story that touched me most was the passing of Senator Kennedy.  I am hard pressed to think of anyone around today who is such a part of the American fabric as Teddy was.  So many of our high and low points over the last 50 years involved the Kennedy brothers, now  that the last one has passed I certainly felt something that had  kept me attached to my youth had been severed.

Unlike his brothers he was given the gift of living to an old age and he repaid that gift by dedicating his life to the improvement of his fellow man.  Millions of people’s lives today are better off for the effort of Senator Kennedy  Can anything better be said of a man after he’s gone?

Ok folks, what are the stories of 2009 that touched you most?

it is interesting that my saved link to b/c is not picking this latest thread. If I click on the underlined name of the thread I can get here. If I click the underlined link for the generic b/c I get the older thread.

I stretched the time by a few years for memories. For the decade 2000-2009, stories that touched me – 9/11 has to be #1 for me. Obama winning, the party of no, the financial crisis, the passing of Ted Kennedy, the flight in the Hudson all are within recent memories.

Personal stories in the decade that didn’t make the new are also memorable. Hubby retiring, adding new grandkids, me gaining and losing weight, gaining and losing again , buying a new car, fixing up the house with double pane windows, new paint and new A/C, surviving the AZ summers, and taking great vacations.

The best thing at the end of 2009 for me is to be alive and healthy and happy.

“Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, you tried to bring down a Northwest Airlines flight! Now what are you going to do?”

      “I’m going to Supermax!”

      What a dope.

That’s for sure, dnd. He gave himself two really bad choices: death or life in super max. What a moron!

Brian, that was a decades worth of memories – we spread out the distribution of $ over 10 years. We’re pretty slow now that we’re retired – LOL
