Happy New Year

English

Original Scottish

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne ?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely you’ll buy your pint cup !
and surely I’ll buy mine !
And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS
We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine ;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS
We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine† ;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS
And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne ?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my jo,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely ye’ll be your pint-stowp !
and surely I’ll be mine !
And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

    Happy New Year!

  4. The song’s Scots title may be translated into English literally as “old long since”, or more idiomatically, “long long ago”[3] or “days gone by”. The phrase “Auld Lang Syne” is also used in similar poems by Robert Ayton (1570–1638), Allan Ramsay (1686–1757), and James Watson (1711) as well as older folk songs predating Burns.[4] Matthew Fitt uses the phrase “In the days of auld lang syne” as the equivalent of “Once upon a time…” in his retelling of fairy tales in the Scots language

  5. Well I guess Fox and T/W worked something out, Fox is still on.

    Time Warner, Fox Extend Talks
CS – Bones FOX TV network
    Greg Gayne / FOX

Time Warner and Fox agreed to extend talks for several hours overnight, despite the fact that Time Warner’s contract to carry Fox expired at midnight. The two companies have been squaring off since Fox has demanded higher cable fees from the cable provider. An official briefed on the three-hour extension said the companies are making progress. The Sugar Bowl is set to air on Fox on Friday.

I was channel surfing looking for the Outback Bowl and wound up on the Rose Bowl parade. They had a float of snowboarding bulldogs. Real live bulldogs! Is this a great country or what? 2010 is gonna be a good year!

I wonder if that’s all Fox channels or just Fox entertainment and Fox sports? I doubt Fox would want to block their propaganda arm, Fox news.

  8. nannymm

It’s their propaganda arm I want to see blocked in all those homes. It would make my day!

Rush Limbaugh is a shameless, opportunistic pig! He has just proclaimed that based on his hospitalization for chest pains, there is NOTHING wrong with the American healthcare system.

  10. “Rush Limbaugh is a shameless, opportunistic pig!”

This comes as news to you?

Bobby “dad-gum” Bowden wins his final game at the Gator Bowl.
The guy’s only 80 years old. He’s only got 389 wins. Why is he retiring?

  11. nannymm

Not at all. I just had to say it yet again in case anyone else had forgotten. 😉

This is really cool for those who hate all the cluttered web pages out there. I just got it today and so far I love love love it!!

READABILITY The single best tech idea of 2009, though, the real life-changer, has got to be Readability. It’s a free button for your Web browser’s toolbar (get it at lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability). When you click it, Readability eliminates everything from the Web page you’re reading except the text and photos. No ads, blinking, links, banners, promos or anything else. Times Square just goes away.

You wind up with a simple, magazine-like layout, presented in a beautiful font and size (your choice) against a white or off-white background with none of this red-text-against-black business.

News Corps and TWC have reached a deal. I wonder what this is going to cost.

  14. Happy New Year everyone…..already it’s better than last year!!!!!!

I got shivers just watching those polar bear people… 🙂

Nanny – the readability tool works great!

  17. Happy Saturday everyone…..it’s freezing out…thermometer says about 18 degrees….brrrrrrrrr.

It’s snowing here. Forecast is for snow and high winds through Monday. I’m glad I can spend the rest of the day curled up by the fire with a good book.

that Steve Goodman was a fricken’ genius. I miss him a lot.

I saw that clip this morning of Limbaugh on his release from the hospital saying our health care system is the best and there’s no reason to change it.

It made me think of a few things:

      1. The doctors couldn’t figure out why Rush had chest pains. Is that a good health care outcome?
      2. He was admitted to the hospital and a variety of diagnostic tests for what was likely a bad case of indigestion. Is that a good use of health care dollars?
      3. The angiogram showed no heart vascular blockage. Limbaugh has a heart? Who knew?

  20. Ok, remember you read here first, the 2012 GOP nominee will be (drum roll please), Jim DeMint.

  21. nannymm

It’s no wonder they couldn’t find anything wrong. Limbaugh faked it so he could get some morphine. He’s a druggie.

  22. I guess his Hawaiian connection was a no show.

We’ve gotten over 14″ of snow since last evening and it’s still snowing. In fact, it’s coming down faster than before. All this is on top of all the snow we got Thursday and Friday. Looks like it’s going to be a snowy winter here in the North Country.

      Doots,
I first saw Steve Goodman and John Prine in 1972 at my brother’s urging, who was going to school in Chicago at the time. Advice for which I’ll always be grateful.
I’m hard pressed to name my favorite Steve Goodman song, but I think this is it:

This is a weird storm. It started in the Gulf of Maine and moved westward. Ya don’t see that very often.
But I must say it is beautiful outside. I’m just glad I don’t have to drive anywhere in it.
