Obama to Urge Oversight of Insurers’ Rate Increases

President Obama will propose on Monday giving the federal
government new power to block excessive rate increases by
health insurance companies, as he rolls out comprehensive
legislation to revamp the nation’s health care system, White
    House officials said.

  2. As always Bev, thanks for the chuckle!

  3. nannymm

Great post, Bev. Best laugh I’ve had all day. 🙂

  4. TempeBev

OMG – McCain deserves to lose the primary – he is so full of bs – “I was mislead on the bailout.”

  5. nannymm

Here is an interesting article about one of the MSM’s failures. It’s a good read.

The Quest for Innocence and the Loss of Reality in Political Journalism
“The quest for innocence means the desire to be manifestly agenda-less and thus ‘prove’ in the way you describe things that journalism is not an ideological trade. But this can get in the way of describing things! What’s lost is that sense of reality Isaiah Berlin talked about…”

  6. nannymm

Bev, McCain is a liar and a bitter old man. He has neither credibility nor honor left as he has sold them both along with his soul. He needs to bow his head and slink away in the disgrace he has so rightly earned.

  7. nannymm

I still don’t like him. One good act can’t undo all the harm he’s caused.

Joe Lieberman to Take Lead on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in Senate
“Connecticut Independent Senator Joe Lieberman will be the chief sponsor of Senate legislation to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy that bars openly gay men and women from serving in the military.”

someone musta pointed out to Lie berman that the Israelis allow gays in their military.

  10. nannymm

Lucky you! Have a great time! If you go to La Casita, have some enchiladas for me. Are you staying at your friend’s ranch?

  11. gee all I’m doing Thursday is having surgery, sucks to be me!

  12. “I still don’t like him. One good act can’t undo all the harm he’s caused.”

    Amen sista!

  13. dooty

you are right Brian it sucks to be you.

Nanny I am staying out at my friends ranch and will be in town every day at Sul Ross. Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering 2nd oldest in the nation. We are going on 24 years now. I got La Casita in my sights now.

I guess I am going to leave noonish on Wed as I now need to pick up one of the cowboy singers from California at the Midland airport at 6pm.

    sorry for the double post.

today is my deceased fathers birthday also

  16. eprof2

Bev, I guess you really are scouring headlines beyond those posted here when you can report on McCain and his being “mislead.” I don’t know who is more stupid, McCain or the right-wing voters of this state. McCain is obvi0usly taking a tack to the far right so he can be re-elected again, at least as the Republican candidate from the primary. He is so transparent in his efforts to court the right that even they might catch on to him and vote for Hayworth.

  17. TempeBev

    eprof2 – it’s a double whammy – McCain or Hayworth – both crappy.

  18. dooty

McCain is crappy but Hayworth is dangerous. Take your pick.

Cheney taken to the hospital with chest pains.

  20. dooty…

If that’s true then a Pray He Dies.

    God Bless.

  21. nannymm

“Cheney taken to the hospital with chest pains.”

It must be indigestion; it can’t be heart pains since he’s a heartless SOB….

  22. Whatever it is, lets hope it’s lethal!

  23. nannymm

Sorry, but I just can’t wish for anyone to die. But I’m not praying for his speedy recovery either….

  24. I didn’t say pray, I said “hope”.

  25. nannymm

And I said wish… I can’t wish or hope for him or anyone to die.

Happy Birthday to David Axelrod today too.

Bev: couldn’t find it, but my favorite Washington Post headline (I think) was from the 70s or 80s; something to the effect of “Judge Rules All in Utah Should Be Shot.” (Had to do with Gary Gilmore execution method.) Shall have to track down the precise wording one of these days.

Also recall “Lucky Man Sees Friends Die”, from one of the NY papers, I think. (Something about a boat wreck with drownings.)

    Thank you for the laughs.

    As to dnd’s comments…
    This Thursday:

    Brian is in surgery.
    …every thing comes out okay!

    Doots is partying in Alpine.
    …every thing comes out okay!
A good time is had by all

    Mad is having a birthday.
    …every thing comes out okay!
Massive number of candles extinguished by blast of hot air.

A total solar eclipse occurred in 1952.

    Coincidence? I think not.

  28. dooty

“Massive number of candles extinguished by blast of hot air.”

Mad don’t forget to notify the local fire dept before you light the candles.

Happy Birthday. Gotta love us Pisces.

  29. I apologize to anyone whom may have been offended by my comment regarding Cheney.

However, there are many instances in the Bible where one prays for the death of their enemies. Dick Cheney is an enemy of all Americans and I will pray for his DEATH like all those good Christians who preach their Bible Verses to the rest of us about the evil Liberals, Democrats, Homosexuals, African Americans, Mexicans, Hispanics, Abortions etc…etc…etc…

Fuck them all, I pray they all DIE.

  30. dooty

    Hey Brian,

hang in there buddy get well quick.

  31. nannymm

Happy Birthday, Bev! I hope you have a wonderful day! 🙂

  32. TempeBev

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I’m getting to the point where I don’t want to count them anymore (67) – just get presents!!!

  33. TempeBev

Good luck tomorrow, Brian. Thinking about you.

  34. Thanks, surviving the pre-op prep is the hard part!

G.M. Plans to Shut Down Hummer After Sale Falls Through

Hummer, the brand of big sport-utility vehicles that became
synonymous with the term “gas guzzler,” is being shut down
after a deal to sell it to a Chinese manufacturer fell apart,
    General Motors said Wednesday.

Happy birthday to Bev, and fingers crossed for Brian’s successful surgery tomorrow.

Re Cheney and his heart: I am hoping he has been saved to face some kind of earthly reckoning for his misdeeds.

I have not followed the DOJ Yoo-Bybee decision at all, but could any of their reluctance to prosecute be explained by anxiety about what the Roberts Supreme Court might do with any eventual appeal by Yoo-Bybee (who would use the courts for all they are worth)?

Suspect one has to be doubly careful how an issue is framed as it heads to the Supreme Court, which can be actively damaging under current management.

  37. Are you going to be entering d?

  38. MadMustard

Happy Birthday to Bev and Doots!  Dooty, I’m not sure when you are having your B’day, but from your comment it must be in February.

Brian, I’m drinking to your speedy recovery because you need to keep on giving everybody a healthy, ‘what for’.

To borrow a sentiment from Reagan, I hope all your doctors are democrats.

  39. nannymm

“I hope all your doctors are democrats.”

Me, too. Repugs today are too damned ignorant to be allowed to operate.

  40. I’ll be at Harlem Hospital, not exactly a bee hive of GOP activity!

  41. nannymm

I spoke with Brian a few minutes ago. Surgery went well and he’s now at home resting. I’ll keep you posted.
