Beware the Ides of March

Vincenzo Camuccini, "Morte di Cesare", 1798,

With the House and Senate posed to deal with health care reform this week, they should reflect on the assassination of Julius Caesar.  Turns out it didn’t work out so well for them.  Failure to pass health care reform measures may not work out so well for them either.

OT but I can’t help it. Re-post from the last thread.

Is there nothing these clowns won’t think of and then say? I laughed out loud when I read this. Bev I am sorry your state is producing idiots like this. May I now introduce JD Hayworth and his very weird stance on nearly everything. This one is about gay marriage.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/15/jd-hayworth-gay-marriage_n_498973.html

  2. nannymm

    J. D. Hayworth is hoping . He is the horse’s ass aft all. 😀

  3. nannymm

    This is funny.

  4. You’re spot on d, there are times when the right thing to do is to stand with your party and this is one of those times. By no means is this bill perfect but it’s a great big foot in the door, 33 million people DESPERATELY need this bill to pass. There is no justifiable reason for any Dem to vote against this bill.

    • dnd

“33 million people DESPERATELY need this bill to pass.”

I’d say the number is a lot higher. For the 40% who aren’t covered by Medicare, Medicade, the VA, Tricare, SCHIP, etc., they are constantly getting shafted by health insurance companies. And for those without health insurance, they are getting shafted by health insurance providers (a topic for an upcoming post).

Eliminating pre-existing conditions and caps. What’s not to like? Getting everybody into the pool will reduce premiums and make for a healthy workforce. The exchanges qualify everybody for large risk-pool rates, particularly if we can buy into FEBP. From a consumer perspective, what’s not to like?

  5. nannymm

Well said, dnd and Brian. This bill must be passed and every Democrat must vote for it. Those who don’t should face serious consequences.

  6. If Rielle Hunter thinks slamming Elizabeth Edwards is going to win her popularity points she’s out of her mind.

  7. nannymm

Agreed. Isn’t it crazy that she claims “all of Johnny’s mistakes were because he feared the wrath of Elizabeth?” As I see it, screwing around with Rielle was “Johnny’s” biggest mistake. Surely he didn’t do THAT to avoid “Elizabeth’s wrath!”

  8. dooty

this is too funny. Our favorite congress person from Minnesota a Mz Bachman wants us to not obey the law if Heath Care Law comes to the US.

    http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/03/bachmann-were-not-going-to-obey-health-care-law—-we-dont-have-to-video.php?ref=fbfp

    • dnd

      Doots,
Ok, first Bachmann wanted us to break the law by not filling out our 2010 Census forms. Now she wants us to break the law by, what, not getting health care? She makes Eric Massa look like a Mensa member.

  9. Haha the prez is pushing health care in Kucinich’s district! Love it!

  10. dooty

sounds like he is really getting them going too.

  11. Wow, he’s really slamming it to Dennis, I’m impressed!

  12. nannymm

So am I!!! I wasn’t sure he had it in him. But I’m THRILLED to be wrong!! Way to go, Mr. President!!

  13. dooty

sounds like the fire and brimstone is starting to bubble to the surface now. Ain’t that right Dennis?

  14. nannymm

Doots, I just saw that Bachman video. She’s a loon. How does she get away with advising people to break the law? Can you imagine if a Dem did that? Sheeesh!!

  15. nannymm

That’s an insult to all Mensa members.

  16. TempeBev

Hi all – yes JD Hayworth is a little more than weird. However he joins our other illustrious members of Congress, McCain, Kyl, T. Frank, Jeff Flake and John Shadegg. The others are Dems, but not sure about them either. Harry Mitchell, with whom I went to school and know, is a Blue dog.

Arizona’s national representatives are only a little bit higher in intelligence than our state representatives.

I’m almost ready to vote against any incumbent.

  17. nannymm

I feel for you and eprof, Bev. We have our nut cases here, for sure. But they are just a few among many good ones. You guys don’t seem to have a worthwhile one in the entire bunch. Pathetic!

Growing up I can never remember a time when Italian-Americans weren’t Democrats. And that includes the Catholic Church. During the mass immigration of Italians during the early 1900’s, they faced huge discrimination, as did all Catholics. They faced this in places that sponsored them for cheap labor (google the Ludlow massacre). The Democrats supported them and they all became Democrats.

So I find it astounding that we see Italian-Americans like Cuccinelli “going rogue.” I’m pretty convinced that people like he, Carly Fiorina, Rudy Guliani, and a handful of others are anomalies in the Italian-American community.

  19. nannymm

Cuccinelli isn’t operating within the realm of reality.

  20. tonyb39

    Hey all,
Agreed this bill needs to pass. Its is a foot in the door for millions.I just have to say i don’t like this bill at all.It still holds the majority of us with Insurance hostage to the Insurance companies. It does nothing to stop what happened to my Mom with terminal cancer, all the while having Blue Cross.A terminally ill woman forced into a bankruptcy court in Jacksonville,Florida after a year suing Blue Cross!I’ll just say it Dems have been bought off by the healthcare lobby! We would have a Public Option otherwise.Dems have the largest majority since the 60’s and this is the best that can be done, sorry, not good enough..The backroom deals come on,sad, what happened to the Democratic party I was raised to believe was for the little guy?? I will stay an Independent and hope the Dems come back to their senses.Very little choice for me though, i could never vote Republican..

  21. nannymm

Well said, dnd. I was raised in a very Italian-American area of NYC. We were all Democrats. I can’t imagine any of our family, friends, or neighbors ever supporting repugs. But I think that has changed among a certain segment…. those who have forgotten their own heritage and struggles. Very sad.

  22. TempeBev

To all of you who had to set your clocks whichever way – that’s the one good thing about Arizona. We don’t change the time.

  23. tonyb39

What I find very sad are those like both my uncles and their wives that worked for GM and receive union negotiated pensions and vote Republican! My Aunt called last week and told me unions are a major reason the Dems have gone wrong.OMG,my fucking head about exploded, she also receives Tri-care for life as my uncle is retired military, spent most of her call bitching about a Obama and his government takeover of everything, meanwhile she enjoys everything government, yes even her GM pension! I told her had it not been for the President she hates, she wouldn’t even be getting her pension and Blue Cross supplemental. No response, but what can i expect they are right wing nuts..

  28. You’re a lot nicer than I am nanny, my wishes for them are a tad more severe.

  29. J. D. Hayworth coming up on Rachel, this should be fun.

  30. tonyb39

The Ed Schultz Show was very informative tonight…Larry O’Donnell does a great job as well.Michael Moore spoke for my Mom and millions tonight.Even after my Mom’s medical bankruptcy, she lived two more years and of course Blue Cross rejected paying! Not to worry the hospital got the $38,000 from the estate as they slapped a lien on my Mom’s house. Oh their excuses for not paying were,we don’t pay for injections, wtf is Chemo or its not cancer coded properly.I would say what’s the proper code i’ll give it to the hospital billing Dept, their response; we can’t give you that code its the law..Yep,like my right wing nut cousin said to me in an e-mail,you seem to have a hate for insurance companies, well dah..My cousin enjoys the VA though…

  31. Rachel looks like she wants to take a shower.

  32. tonyb39

Rachael called him out and he showed himself for the smug fool he is..

  33. nannymm

Wow, Tony. Your poor mom! No one should have to go through that. And no son (or daughter) should have to witness that, either. I’m so sorry that this country still can’t see its way to real universal healthcare. Medicare for all is what we need and must have. I’m for this bill ONLY because it’s all we seem to be able to get our gutless Dem politicians to pass right now. But once it’s passed and signed into law, we will need to get right back to work to push for more. As I see it, this is not an end; it’s merely a small beginning.
As for your right wing relatives, my husband and I have a few of those, too. I find it incredibly difficult to even have a discussion with them. Mostly I want to tell them they’re a bunch of ignorant assholes who haven’t a clue what the fuck they’re talking about. But since that would cause a family feud, I just avoid them. 🙂

  34. Not covering “injectables” is a long standing scam among many plans.

  35. tonyb39

“Medicare for all is what we need and must have. I’m for this bill ONLY because it’s all we seem to be able to get our gutless Dem politicians to pass right now. But once it’s passed and signed into law, we will need to get right back to work to push for more.”

    Nanny,
Good comment and I agree totally.Gutless Dems, yep.Still, we have to go with this bill. The good thing about my Mom’s situation was I was the care giver. After the bankruptcy i took care of all the bills so my Mom had the illusion that all was well financially..I intend watch Grayson’s bill and donate to him or Adam Green or anyone else who champions the cause!

  36. tonyb39

    Brian,
What was so strange is we would wait for pre- approval of the Chemo and Blue Cross would approve and then reject the charge because it was injectable…Same with the coding, they would say it wasn’t cancer coded, yet the Chemo drugs were Cancer drugs..I spent thousands suing Blue Cross with their staff of attorneys and in the end bankruptcy was the only way to beat them..

  37. Trust me Tony, I could tell you stories that would make the hair on your back stand up (hey you are Italian after all).

  38. tonyb39

Yep,I’m sure you have em too..Ha,yes I’m Italian..You are very sharp..Blue Cross is hair raising, yes indeed..

  39. nannymm

I don’t know you were Italian, too, Tony. That makes three of us then, you, dnd, and me.

  40. nannymm

    Tony, are you on Facebook?

  41. A thought occurred to me last night, with the passage of health care reform I think we will finally be able to say that Reagan era is over.

  42. TempeBev

OMG – I just watched JD on Rachel. What a prick! And that’s his usual style. Haven’t really seen him since he was on local TV as a sportscaster, but the continuous smirk on his face makes me want to puke. Maybe Sarah will come to AZ and stump with him. If so, I would go to a rally and boooooooooo!!

  43. I found him very creepy Bev.

  44. TempeBev

You and lots of other people — he is creepy.

  47. nannymm

This is ridiculous! These damned cowards need to VOTE! That is their job; it is what we send them to DC to do. When are they going to stand up as proud Democrats and do the right thing? Chicken shit bastards!

  48. I don’t give a rat’s ass if they pass it by going to the floor for a vote on the Senate bill or they pass with deem & pass. JUST PASS IT!

  49. nannymm

Well, I agree with the pass it part. But is it too damned much to expect a bit of political courage and honesty? Jack, Bobbie, And Teddy must be rolling over in their graves.

  50. dog's eye view

    Deamonte too.

I think BC should include on its home page a little picture of Deamonte, with a caption “Pass healthcare reform now” and a permalink to Nanny’s excellent post on Deamonte and the costs of NOT having accessible, affordable healthcare.

“‘Slaughter Solution’ could face legal challenge”

“The so-called “Slaughter solution” for enacting health care reform without a conventional House vote on an identically worded Senate bill would be vulnerable to credible constitutional challenge, experts say.

No lawyer interviewed by POLITICO thought the constitutionality of the “deem and pass” approach being considered by House Democrats was an open-and-shut case either way. But most agreed that it could raise constitutional issues sufficiently credible that the Supreme Court might get interested, as it has in the past.”

  54. tonyb39

    Nanny,
I’m with you, these gutless Dem’s just need to vote on the Senate bill and pass it! Stand for something, hell if the Dem’s can cut all the deals and kill the Public Option for the healthcare industry then they can damn sure stand up and be counted! If we let politicians get away with this type of shit, then its no wonder we the people aren’t heard..

  55. Oh Tony no matter how the bill is passed it’s going to face challenges, don’t forget about those psycho 10thers.

  56. People who believe the 10th Amendment prohibits the fed from enacting health care reform or just about anything else. You know, crazy people, tea baggers, birthers, and/or 10thers.

  57. Anyone else get their census form yet?

“You know, crazy people, tea baggers, birthers, and/or 10thers.”

    Brian,
So true, these people will always be against everything Obama! Hell, I work with a tea party lover daily.Grace and her husband flew to Washington and attended their first Tea Party or as I call them “The I hate Obama parties”and can’t get enough! Its utter BS,she says the parties are about government spending being out of control,i say why no parties while Bush was President, no answer…

    I received my Census yesterday..

    “Reconciling Reconciliation”

“I also don’t get how anyone could have watched the Senate over the last year or so and not concluded that this thing is better passed with 50 votes than 60. With 50 votes, you have ten fewer Senators to bribe, which according to my calculations should bring the overall cost of the bill down by about at least fifty trillion dollars.

I hate this bill and have since the beginning — to me it seems like a radical and dangerous step to start forcing people to become customers of a seriously overpriced, inefficient product, thereby removing the last incentive for an already antitrust-exempted, horrifically-performing industry to improve itself in any way.

But I’m beginning to come around to the idea that if we do pass this thing, sooner or later Congress is going to get around to complaining about subsidizing the profits of WellPoint and Aetna and all the rest of them. Naturally the first place they’ll cut in future budget crises is the “affordability credits” for low-income earners, but there’s a slim chance they’ll get around to chiseling the fat from the insurance companies, too, which might in turn lead ultimately to a sane revamping of this ridiculous system.”

Saying Romanoff is an underdog is an understatement. Bennett has Obama’s support and apparently tons of campaign money since I’ve been getting lots of campaign mailers, robo-calls and real calls for Bennett. Nothing from Romanoff.

Ken Buck is a teabagger. Or at least he talks like one.

I’m guessing that the turnout for the caucus’ was mostly activists, many with an anti-incumbent slant.

  66. nannymm

    Dennis is a YES vote!!

  67. d I already told you what happened, the prez threatened to have him thrown off the plane, while still in flight! 🙂

  68. I found it interesting that he mentioned his wife, I suspect she came down very heavy on this. She’s not stupid woman and had Dennis voted no it would have destroyed him in the party.

  69. nannymm

Now maybe the others will jump on board and we can get this vote over and done with. The longer it drags on the worse it looks.
