  1. Unemployment Rate Doesn’t Budge, But U.S. Economy FINALLY Added Jobs In March

    • dnd

Those jobs number indeed make this a Good Friday. The markets would be up today if they were open. First positive job growth in three years. That the unemployment rate didn’t move was predictable. More people are now back in the job market.

Jon Stewart is my main news source. He is brilliant and I love his show. Even got to go when I was in NYC.

CNN obviously has problems – and it’s just fodder for Jon to obviously point out. Erickson was vetted the same way Palin was.

  3. Jack Cassell: Doctor Refuses To Treat Obama Supporters

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) told the Sentinel he was “disgusted” by Cassell’s behavior.

“Maybe he thinks the Hippocratic Oath says, ‘Do no good’,” Grayson said. “If this is the face of the right wing in America, it’s the face of cruelty. … Why don’t they change the name of the Republican Party to the Sore Loser Party?”

  4. nannymm

He could lose his license for that.

  5. I think it’s generous of him to let potential patients know he’s an ass before they even enter the office!

    • dnd

This just goes to show how times have change. In 1981, following Reagan’s assassination attempt, Reagan joked to the attending surgeons: “”Please tell me you’re all Republicans.” Dr. Joseph Giordano, who headed the George Washington University Hospital trauma team that operated on Reagan told him: “We’re all Republicans today.”

      Giordano was a liberal Democrat…

  6. nannymm

I suspect his office is going to be filled with teabaggers soon. How appropriate for a urologist. 🙂

  7. dooty

so this doctor only treats T T Baggers?

  8. nannymm

I can’t imagine who else would want to go to him, Doots. I sure as hell wouldn’t got to ANY doctor, Dem or Repug, who did that. I wouldn’t trust his or her judgment or temperament. Hell, I’d question his or her mental stability.

  9. nannymm

Giordano and the rest of that team of physicians were top notch, unlike that quack in Florida.

  10. nannymm

dnd, you’re Catholic, aren’t you? I’m wondering if you have any thoughts on that post I made late last night on the previous thread. If so, do you (and anyone else) mind sharing your thoughts?

  11. Vatican Priest Likens Furor To Violence Against Jews

Pope Benedict XVI’s personal preacher on Friday likened accusations against the pope and the Catholic church in the sex abuse scandal to “collective violence” suffered by the Jews.

Um, no! And leave us out of it!

  12. nannymm

Dnd, if you could see the comments on some of those blogs it’s quite clear that a lot of those people weren’t moved a bit.

Brian, that was an appalling comment by the Vatican. I’m astounded by how tone deaf and off base the Church hierarchy is. Whoever is advising them on PR matters (if indeed anyone is) should be fired. They are just digging this hole deeper….
    It’s heartbreaking to watch.

This is from a Bishop who seems to get it:

” The head of Germany’s Roman Catholic bishops said earlier in an unusually forthright Good Friday statement that the church in the pope’s homeland failed to help victims of clerical sex abuse because it wanted to protect its reputation.

Clerics have neglected helping abuse victims by a “wrongly intended desire to protect the church’s reputation,” Archbishop Robert Zollitsch of Freiburg said.

The news about sexual and physical abuse of children by priests and other employees leaves the church with “sadness, horror and shame,” he said.

That was from the same article quoted above by Brian. What the Church needs is more clergy to speak out as candidly and forcefully as the Archbishop Robert Zollitsch of Freiburg.

Perhaps one of the brave letters in today’s New York Times may be of interest to you:
    To the Editor:
Secrecy, fear of public scandal and a closed hierarchal structure are the main factors that allow child sex abuse to occur both in the Catholic Church and the much smaller Orthodox Jewish world (“Vatican Declined to Defrock U.S. Priest Who Abused Deaf Boys,” front page, March 25). The reports of senior church officials being unresponsive to complaints about deviant priests are exceptionally disturbing, and parallel what we have seen in Jewish institutions.
Strict laws requiring clergy to report sex abuse to law enforcement are essential. Mandatory background checks of all personnel are a must. The church scandal we are witnessing now is the fruit of civil lawsuits for damages. Ridiculously short statutes of limitations should be liberally extended. Since churches, synagogues, parochial schools and yeshivas can’t police themselves, government, acting through its laws, needs to step in.
    Elliot B. Pasik
    Asher Lipner
    Long Beach, N.Y., March 25, 2010
The writers are, respectively, president and vice president of the Jewish Board of Advocates for Children.

  15. Perhaps the Rev. thinks we Jews are “poisoning the well” of public opinion (ok, seriously that’s a brilliant historical analogy on my part).

But in all seriousness anytime anyone who works for the Vatican feels he is about to use the term “the Jews” he really just needs to shut the fuck up!

  16. Long-Term Care Program Debuts In New Health Law

The Community Living Assistance Services and Supports Act, better known as the CLASS Act, was one of the last legislative efforts of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA). He added it to the health bill last summer as it was moving through the committee he chaired in the Senate.

  17. Kudos to Tweety for calling Rush a “walrus under water”!

  18. nannymm

“But in all seriousness anytime anyone who works for the Vatican feels he is about to use the term “the Jews” he really just needs to shut the fuck up!”

I agree totally, Brian. Hearing “the” anything…be it Jews, blacks, Muslims, Catholics, or whatever …annoys the hell out of me. It neglects the individual differences among the members of whatever group is being cited. Have you noticed that it is almost always said by people who have some sort of bias?

  19. nannymm

LOL@ that remark by Tweety. If he’s posted that here we’d have to give him post of the day. Hell, that might merit post of the week. 😀

  20. nannymm

He sure was. So were Mary and Joseph and all the apostles. Imagine that!

  21. nannymm

Oh, yeah. So was that Iranian fruitcake, Ahmadinejad . Of course, if I were Jewish I wouldn’t want to acknowledge that.

  22. tonyb39

Just when you think you can’t be shocked, that Florida urologist,oh shit he’s disgusting!! Brian good point,at least he lets you know what a piece of shit he is before you enter his office..

Absolutely enjoyed your post from the previous thread on your faith! I just really like you..

  23. nannymm

Tony, that is the nicest thing anyone has said to me in 24hrs. That and the earlier comment from dnd. Thank you both; it means a lot. This is just a very difficult time for me.
That idiot doctor is on CNN right now. Anderson Cooper is interviewing him. What an ass he is; Paul and I both think he needs a mental status evaluation. Now, one of my new political heroes, Alan Grayson is on.

  24. nannymm

Brian, you need some new material. That line is getting old.

  25. “getting a FUCKING room you two”

  26. nannymm

nope… not very original at all.

  27. Would you give me a break, I’m sitting here watching the few remaining sand grains of my youth drop into the bottom half of the hour glass that is my life.

  28. US Jewish leaders denounce Catholic sermon

“What a sad irony this would be on Good Friday, where so much of the anti-Semitism was brought about by the church against Jews,” said Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League. “Anti-Semitism was pogroms, inquisitions, expulsions that led to death … What a grotesque comparison.”

    Can you tell we’re pissed?

  29. nannymm

Yes, I can tell you’re pissed. You have every right to be. But can you tell that this is heartbreaking for many of us?
As far as your birthday, you’re only as young as you feel. Cheer up and enjoy it; this is going to be a fabulous year!
Oh, yeah! Think of the positives…. dnd, eprof, bev, and I will always be older than you. 😀

  30. The must explain the slight of smell or urine in the blog.
