BP Agrees to Place About $20 Billion in Escrow for Spill Claims

The White House and top executives of the energy giant BP
have tentatively agreed that the oil company will pay about
$20 billion over several years into an independently
controlled fund to pay compensation to people and businesses
harmed by the immense oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The
fund would be overseen by Kenneth Feinberg, the prominent
lawyer who ran the compensation fund for victims of the Sept.
11 terror attacks and is the government’s special master for
executive pay under the TARP program. President Obama
demanded the creation of such a fund in his national address
about the oil spill Tuesday evening, and met with company
execcutives at the White House on Wednesday.

  3. Just got an amazing phone call, the vet called, based on his blood work it might not be lymphoma but the mass in his chest might be a massive infection!

  4. dog's eye view

    Keep us posted.

Does the infection mean it’s a greater short-term risk?

Fingers crossed that Tucker is doing better than expected.

  5. If it’s just an infection hopefully we can get it under control with anti-biotic and he’ll be fine!

  6. dooty

fingers crossed for Tucker but good news

Wow, $20 billion from a 20 minute meeting with BP. I wonder what all the critics of the Oval Office address have to say now?

  7. Brian,

Heard you doggie was under the weather. Hope all turns out well.

  8. Brian…

Hope its only an infection and Tucker gets better sooner rather than later.

    God Bless.

I thought Sarah P was supposed to get her own show. or did I miss remember that?

  13. Not her own show, but a series of “specials”. Now isn’t that special?

  14. Morning peeps,
Well I see the repugs are accusing the prez of shaking down BP. idiots.

  15. dooty

These clowns and yes, they are clowns, are idiots. There are at least 10 sound bites per Repuke to be used against these a holes in the coming elections.

“Smoking” Joe Barton is a congressman from near where I live. He is one or two districts to the east of me. He is a weather change denier and represents several concrete processing facilities in his district. The pollution is swept into Dallas and Ft Worth due to the prevailing winds and where they sit. He steadfastly opposes any regulations on air quality. The EPA has just told the DFW area it is receiving the worst rating it gives and must come up with another plan to reduce the pollution.

Smoking Joe is the clown that made the comments that Obama is shaking down a private company. Asshole.

  17. Asshole indeed, I just took a look at the other blog (you know who’s) and frankly it’s no better, it’s all about bashing the prez. Could someone please tell me exactly what type of rhetorical flourishes is going to help anyone pay their mortgage or put dinner on the table for their family? Now 20 billion dollars (plus the 100 million for workers) will go along way in keeping the wolves from people’s doors.

  18. dooty

I just went over there and looked and I guess we should not be surprised at the tone of that blog. It is a pretty anti Obama site now and I guess really always has been.

  19. And for today’s irony moment. Tucker’s vet called this morning, she thinks he may have inflammatory bowel disease, talk about a father/son bonding moment!
