Smoking Joe just gave the WH the best sound bite of the year today with his apology to BP. I hope they can slam him to the ground.

  2. doots he’s not the only repug coming to the defense of BP, apparently Sarah is taking BP under her protective wing too! Schmucks.

  3. dooty

didn’t her husband work for BP in Alaska?

  4. dooty

well wiki says he worked for BP for 18 years.

  5. Well he had to have something to do when he wasn’t plotting to get Alaska to leave the union.

  8. GOP lawmaker demands Barton step down from top committee spot

A Republican lawmaker from a district affected by the oil spill called on Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) to step down as the ranking member of his committee.

Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.), whose Pensacola district is among the most-impacted areas in the Gulf by the oil spill, condemned Barton for apologizing to BP CEO Tony Hayward during a committee meeting on Thursday.

  13. Weird, a few months ago (yes a few months ago) I sent Schumer an email expressing my support for the terrorists to be tried here in NYC. Here is his reply:

    Dear Mr. Arens:

Thank you for writing and expressing your support for trying Khalid Sheik Mohammed and the 9/11 co-conspirators in U.S. federal courts. I wholeheartedly agree that we must bring those involved in planning and executing the 9/11 attacks to justice.

I was the primary author of the federal death penalty provisions against terrorists in the 1994 Omnibus Crime Bill and I am committed to seeing the death penalty imposed on Khalid Sheik Mohammed and his cohorts, in whichever forum they are tried. While I don’t believe that terrorists are entitled to the rights of citizens, these trials provide the best, quickest way to impose the ultimate punishment on these terrorists. The Attorney General has indicated he will seek death penalty and assured me that there will be no legal impediments to seeking or imposing the death penalty.

After consulting with Mayor Bloomberg and Police Chief Ray Kelly, and considering the extraordinarily high costs estimated for security surrounding the trials as well as the ongoing disruption to the lives of New Yorkers for the duration of the trial, I have come to the conclusion that holding the trials in Manhattan or anywhere in New York is untenable. I support the Administration’s request for the Attorney General to consider alternative locations for trying the 9/11 conspirators, where a trial can be held safely and more cost effectively.

Thank you for contacting me on this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of further assistance to you on this, or any other matter.

    Sincerely,

    Charles E. Schumer
    United States Senator

I guess he doesn’t know I strongly am against the death penalty under any circumstances!

I think life in one of those supermax prisons, where you’re in your cell 23 hours a day, have no contact with other prisoners and will never see the sunshine again (literally), is far worse punishment than death.

  14. Already happened, nothing up on youtube yet, he took Barton to task like only Joe can!

  15. d I found Schumer’s email downright weird and nothing more than a cop out.

  16. dooty

great line “one party wants to Kick some Ass and the other party wants to Kiss some Ass.”

The pleasure of not having cable continues.

General cluelessness as to what the generally clueless Joe Barton said.

Yeah, he’s got a statewide future along coastal Texas.

Memo to Joe: Texas has a coastline too. A purty one, and long.

  18. dog's eye view

    You made me go look.

    NY Times headline:

Boehner Holds Barton at Arm’s Length

How bad could that be? You might not smell the stale tobacco smoke so fiercely, and maybe the icky orange won’t rub off as much on your clothing and person.

But since they stick together like white on rice, I guess this is bad, or something, for that nice Joe Barton.

  19. Another WTF moment today:

Candidate: BP spill could be government plot

RALEIGH, N.C. — Republican congressional candidate William “Bill” Randall is suggesting that the Obama administration and BP conspired to intentionally spill oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

  20. dog's eye view

That goes in the “cognitive dissonance, example G” file.

I am sure Randall has heard that spewed elsewhere and is passing it along.

Other meme is that Obama is spending too much time golfing.

    Got that?

Interesting to me that Barry Goldwater’s “Conscience of a Conservative” did not make the list.

Blogpost author was looking at legislation that flowed from books’ exposure of social or environmental ills.

Hypocrisy watch. Tweety dissed Michael Papantonio for getting down on Limbaugh, saying “we don’rt get personal here.” That’s all Tweety does is get personal. It’s his shtick. Perhaps he’s nervous that Papantonio, who is in every way his equal in being a blowhard, is moving in on his turf.

    • dnd

      dog,
“Conscience of a Conservative” is a great book. Something the contemporary right would put dis as much as Al Franken’s “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot.”

  22. it’s spelled “schtick”.

turn about is a bitch aint it d?

    • dnd

      ‘it’s spelled “schtick”.’

Tell that to the Firefox spell check. That’s where I got the spelling. Do they have a Yiddish dictionary?

    Rudy that is.

  29. The prez should send Biden down to the spill zone, he’s a natural at this type of stuff

  30. If you move up to the 27 minute mark in the Biden vid that’s where he starts discussing Barton’s remark.

  31. dooty

just for grins today I listened to Fox News for about 30 mins (all I could take) and Joe Barton’s name was not mentioned once. In fact, they did not spend much time on the hearings of yesterday at all. But we knew they would do that, didn’t we?

    • dnd

The DNC is going to save a boatload on campaign commercial production this year. All they have to show is anything by Sharron Angle, Carly Fiorina’s catty remark about Barbara Boxer’s hair, and now Joe Barton apologizing to BP.

My guess is that every Dem running in gulf coast states will show that over and over, transposed with oil on the beaches and unemployed fishermen.

  32. Morning peeps. Doots I watched some Fox last night, Huackabee was on, he was claiming that the feds are just as much to blame for what’s going on as the Gulf as BP and since the feds can’t be trusted control of the 20 billion should be turned over to the states. It was jaw dropping stupid.

  33. dooty

don’t forget Rudy G on Morning Load yesterday with Dylan R taking about how the Dems have made a mess of the oil spill. I hate Rudy more and more every time I see his stupid Repuke face.

  34. Something many of us in NY have known for a very long time doots.
