Daily Mail account of Julian Assange’s legal predicament, claims sources are leaked police interviews, among others. So much for Sweden being for lovers.

We learn some Swedish. “Sexfalla” translates to “honeytrap.” Sort of.

Hard to tell here if this is the Swedish legal system gone awry, or manipulated, or if the sexual charges are a pretext for bringing Assange to Sweden, which has an extradition treaty with the United States.

If Daily Mail’s account is true, this does not sound like “rape” in the U.S. sense; sounds a lot like two vengeful women realizing they’ve been one night stands and making life difficult for their shared partner.

Interesting that chief prosecutor first overruled pressing charges in August,
but the case was reopened in September.

” [in August] …legal papers were rushed to the weekend home of the chief prosecutor, who dismissed the rape charge.

She felt that what had occurred were no more than minor offences.

But the case was now starting to spin out of control. …
[One accuser] Sarah next spoke to a newspaper, saying: ‘In both cases, the sex had been consensual from the start but had eventually turned into abuse.’

The two [accusing] women then instructed [engaged?] Claes Borgstrom, a so-called ‘gender lawyer’ who is a leading supporter of a campaign to extend the legal definition of rape to help bring more rapists to justice.

As a result, in September the case was reopened by the authorities, and last month Interpol said Assange was wanted for ‘sex crimes’.”

Dog – Great story about chickinis. I now have 8 grandchickens at my son’s home. Teenage chickens are not the cute fluff balls they were at age 2 days. Grown up chicken are not cute at all. Here’s hoping they produce great eggs!

Does he have a chicken coop?

    Fresh eggs. What a treat.

Yeah, some chickens do remind you of dinosaurs and lizards.

And some of Gilded Age ladies in all their finery.

Obama to hold press conference in a few minutes (2:20 or 2:30 Eastern) on tax cuts deal.

He’s got some persuading to do.

  10. dog's eye view

He’s persuading. He’s on his game.

    Excellent presser.

I wish this could be broadcast uncut on all the networks tonight. Our public airwaves.

    It’s that good.

Direct quote: [John Boehner] “can’t just stand on the sidelines and be a bomb thrower.”

And now he is taking on purists.

    Be still my heart.

I have been trying to get to this article for about 10 min Backchannel would load but it would not see this newer post. finally it loaded after I did a refresh. is that weird?

  16. heartbreaking news about Elizabeth Edwards.

  17. President Barack Obama said he spoke to John Edwards and the Edwardses’ daughter, Cate, on Tuesday afternoon to offer condolences.

“In her life, Elizabeth Edwards knew tragedy and pain,” Obama said in a statement. “Many others would have turned inward; many others in the face of such adversity would have given up. But through all that she endured, Elizabeth revealed a kind of fortitude and grace that will long remain a source of inspiration.”

The president called her a tenacious advocate for fixing the health care system and fighting poverty. “Our country has benefited fro

  18. As long as I live I will never understand people, stupidly I just looked in at Trailmush to see if anything was posted about Elizabeth’s passing, for reasons I just don’t fathom the few who commented also felt compelled to bash John while they were at it. I just don’t get what’s that about. He should rename the place Toxic Mix.

  19. I almost fell off my chair tonight when watching K.O. and he refereed to Obama as Neville Chamberlain. That’s what I said in the first paragraph of my 7:42 comment last night on the previous thread.

As if he read it or my post on my site. Of course he didn’t, but it sure was strange he would quote Churchill and what he said in regards to Chamberlain.

Elizabeth Edwards was a good person and I know her family will sorely miss her. Its a shame that John had too hurt her so much during her trying time when her cancer returned.

May she rest in peace and in the hands of the Lord now. And may she not be forgotten for all the good she has done for humanity.

  20. AP people often do stupid or unfeeling things in their lives to the people they love, I’m not sure what is to be gained by bringing it up at this time, my heart goes out to him. The person he spent most of his life with, the person with whom he grieved over the loss their child and was the mother to his most of his children has died.

  21. Brian…

I’m not condemning John, but just thinking what a great wife he had and how one seems to not understand the hurt they can cause through a careless act as he did.

John has done many good things, but he will always be remembered for the pain he caused his wife when she was ill. That’s all I’m saying and if it was taken the wrong way I apologize.
