Reading the Constitution on the Floor of the House

The new Republican controlled House has pledged to read the Constitution on the floor of the House.  Presumably this is in response to the Tea Party’s claim that much government spending is unconstitutional.  Given this new freshman class, I expect the reading to look like this:

They also want those who submit bills to cite what in the Constitution allows for the provisions of the bill.  Perhaps one of the things they will learn from the reading of the Constitution is that the legislature can pass anything it wants.  It’s up to the courts to determine if a law is constitutional.  Now that may be viewed as “activist” judges legislating from the bench, but if you read the Constitution, you’ll find that’s their job.

  1. Evening peeps.

What a lame ass idea of the repugs, if the founding fathers had wanted it read on the floor wouldn’t they have put that into the Constitution?

The biggest item on the political agenda for 14 states today is the elimination of citizen to babies born to illegal immigrants. Of course this is so much more important than jobs, the economy etc. Two of our mighty repug legislature (AZ) will join 13 other state reps to present it to someone in DC who will listen and be convinced that this is what the constitution means.

      Doots,
I hear they’re editing out the parts of the Constitution they don’t like. So I guess all they’ll read is the 2nd Amendment. Bohner might read the repeal of prohibition 😉

Surely they won’t read the 16th Amendment either.

I heard that some one of the “birther movement” yelled out , “Obama God help us” when they read the part about being born in the USA to be eligible for president. Good Grief, Charlie Brown.

I have a pic of the Congress building with a red nose and red hair like a clown but I can’t get it to copy and paste. I will keep trying.

As I’ve written before, a simple effective measure would be to allow individuals or companies to buy into the FEHBP. FEHBP is a self-insured, administrative services only program, administered by the insurance companies with the lowest bid. The plan’s benefits are specified by the government. I mean, if it’s good enough for federal employees like congress-critters, it should be good enough for their constituents.

two repugs on the house side miss being sworn in and yet they still voted. This is a direct violation of the constitution they say they love. What were they doing when the swearing in happened? Oh, out raising money.

    D,

I don’t know the answer to your question. I made an appointment just today for 1-21-2011. So, maybe I am covered. I think they are good until March or so budget wise.

Hope you all saw the Daily Show and Jon’s new quest to piss off John McCain. Have no doubt he’ll do it. Should be very entertaining.

Michele Backman for prez? OMG – the thought is staggering. Guess she’ll have some real experience now that she’s on the Intelligence comm. Wonder if there’s an intelligence test that one has to pass to be a member? Probably not.
