Are you now or have you ever been a Muslim?

House Homeland Security Committee chair Rep. Peter King (R-NY) is opening hearings this week on homegrown Muslim terrorism.    To even the casual observer this curious demagogic move smacks of McCarthyism.

“We proclaim ourselves, as indeed we are, the defenders of freedom, wherever it continues to exist in the world, but we cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home. The actions of the junior Senator from Wisconsin have caused alarm and dismay amongst our allies abroad, and given considerable comfort to our enemies. And whose fault is that? Not really his. He didn’t create this situation of fear; he merely exploited it—and rather successfully.”

  1. We are all Muslims now! King is an embarrassment to the office he holds and his nation.

They* just keep getting worse an worse each day – something new to be confrontational and cause problems local, national and world wide.

    Our favorites = repugs.

What ever happened to common sense – did they vote on their own private definitions?

  3. Maybe I was in a former life.

They are going to take this too far, maybe sooner than we think.

    Ugliness is ugliness.

Glad you’re throwing beads of the Backchannel float. You’re a busy boy running this blog and building a float in cold weather, not to mention transporting it to NO. Have a great time on Bourbon Street or wherever you’re celebrating. Be safe on the way back 🙂

Hey Bev, have you been to the Salt River Fields? I’ve heard it’s baseball’s spring training heaven.

ps. that would make a great blog post. hint, hint.

  6. Are you now or ever a Irish Terrorist Catholic Child Molester Mr. Peter King?

After all your Irish and blow up cars killing woman and children. Your also Catholic and we all know how Catholic Priests like to molester children so therefore all Irish are Terrorist and all Catholic’s are child molesters.

Have you Mr. King molested your children, after all you are a Catholic.

Anon: isn’t that the same kind of hyperbole you are anticipating from King’s hearings?

However, you do a great service in pointing out the many opportunities for watching hypocrisy on parade.

David Broder dead at 81. Film at 11pm.

Bummer to hear about Broder. Regardless of what one might of thought of his opinions, he was a “shoe-leather” reporter. Don’t see much of that these days.

are we gonna have an inquiry on people like the guy that was bombing aborting centers and then Tim Mc Veigh might have been a Christian and what about the guys killed those doctors?

D- I’ve driven past it on the way to North Scottsdale. Looks very impressive. Since I’ve only been to one spring training game I haven’t been inside the new stadium. The game I attended was years ago in Tucson one of the first spring training sessions of the Rockies vs. the DB’s. We bought a CR cap since it’s my son’s initials. That was the one and only. I’ll think about a post, but I would have to do some research. I do know people are bitching about the price increase even for the grassy areas outside many of the stadiums. Seems like BB owners are as greedy as the NFL owners.

  12. Looks like the repugs in Wisconsin have pulled a fast one, I hope there is a full blown all out state wide strike of all state workers! This is where the rubber is going to meet the road.

I think we are going to see some clarity on Wisconsin and NPR. That maybe we have hit a hinge on both issues.

Ok, Wisconsin is not on my list of places to retire.

  16. Rand Paul Blames Energy Department for Faulty Toilets, Among Other Things

Mr. Paul also drew a pointed parallel with abortion, opening his questioning by asking Ms. Hogan, “I was wondering if you are pro-choice?”

Ms. Hogan said she was “pro-choice in light bulbs.” But Mr. Paul accused her, the Energy Department and Democrats in general of hypocrisy. “You favor a woman’s right to abortion,” he said, but “you’re really anti-choice on every other product.”
