Do Businessmen Make Good Presidents?

The Romney campaign has been saying that only a successful businessman knows how to create jobs.  Let’s forget for the nonce that during his tenure at Bain Capital those leveraged buyouts usually wound up cutting jobs and while Governor of Massachusetts they were 47th in job growth.

If you think about it the whole  notion is silly.  CEO’s create jobs by increasing demand for their goods or services.  Presidents create jobs by policies that enable an increase in demand for the goods and services that CEO’s  companies provide.

Peter Lynch, the stellar mutual fund manager, wrote in his book One Up on Wall Street that your should invest in companies that a monkey could run, because eventually one will be running it.  Good reason to question the notion that only a successful businessman can create jobs as president.

  1. American business men/woman seem to do an outstanding job of shipping jobs overseas, can’t say we have many examples of them creating many jobs here at home.

aren’t government and business really two different things and sort of at odds with each other? That is how I see it anyway.

Pelosi and leadership call on Weiner to resign.

    Another shoe about to drop?

How many of Romney’s businesses went bankrupt? He saved the SLC olympics – he got health care for his state. What else has he done? The repug candidates seem a little weak – how many of them will spend the money only to find out they can’t make it after all? Newt is finding out his campaign isn’t going to cut it.

How many Repugs demanded their party members resign after having affairs, etc with the opposite or same sex. Weiner has a problem, but it’s not up to members of congress to decide he should resign. Why can’t the dems fight for one of their own as the repugs do?

Perhaps if an anonymous poll were taken to divulge the number of members of Congress who have strayed from the “norm,” many of them would be encouraged to resign too. It’s fine unless things become public and then the media swarms like a bunch of starving fish who just got lunch.

Politics suck big time on both sides.

Couldn’t have said it better myself Bev!

Gabby looks good – whether she’ll be able to resume or run for office in the future is anyone’s guess at this point. At least she’s alive and appears happy.

Anybody watching the Republican debate tonight on CNN? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller? (in reference to the 25th anniversary of Ferris Buller’s Day Off).

I’m boycotting because former NM Gov. Gary Johnson was banned from the debate.
That and the Rockies are playing the Padres tonight 😉

I’m watching right now and I may throw up!

Ok Bev, who won the debate? From what I saw of the coverage this morning it was less of a debate than sound bites from stump speeches bashing Obama.
