Happy Birthday Elvis!

Ok, I’ll give Michele Bachmann a pass for confusing the start of the Revolutionary War at Concord, NH rather than Concord, MA.  And I’ll give her a pass for thinking the founding fathers fought tirelessly to end slavery.  I’ll even give her a pass for calling generals “commanders” or thinking that Gen. Petraeus  was in the chain of command for Libya.

But mistaking the 34th anniversary of Elvis’ death with his birthday is where I draw the line.  That’s it.  I’m not voting for her.

Oh my, she really needs to at least check out Wikipedia before she makes references to history. Where the hell are her handlers? Are they getting “cured” at hubby’s office? Are they conspiring to make her look like a fool? If so, they are doing a great job.

Given what Jim Hightower said, it’s interesting that Perry thinks that he can get away with it. Is he just delusional or does his ego have no bounds?

Justice Department Investigating S.&P. Over Mortgage Securities

The Department of Justice is investigating whether the nation’s largest credit ratings agency, Standard & Poor’s, improperly rated dozens of mortgage securities in the years leading up to the financial crisis, according to two people interviewed by the government and another briefed on such interviews.
The Justice Department has been asking about instances in which the agency’s analysts wanted to award lower ratings on mortgage bonds but may have been overruled by S.&P. executives, according to the people with knowledge of the interviews.

The investigation began before Standard & Poor’s cut the United States’ triple-A credit rating this month, but is likely to add fuel to the political firestorm that has surrounded that action.

He’s both delusional and his ego has no bounds. He’s from Texas! His mouth is gonna get him in more trouble than the recent “treason” remark.

Gabrielle Giffords’ congressional spokesman, CJ Karamargin, has left her staff for a job at Pima Community College.

I wonder if that means she’s decided against defending her seat in 2012.

Wouldn’t be a surprise; she’s got a lot of recovery ahead.

A shame, because even with her struggles, she (and her staff) provide better representation than a lot of congressional constituents get.

Bev: what do you hear? I might be reading too much into this.

Dog, Really don’t have a clue except she’s got high 6 figures in her war chest. A couple of repugs have announced they’re forming exploratory comm. I think both have indicated that they won’t run if she decided to seek re-ellection. I am crossing my fingers that she will be well enough to run. She may not be as she was, but from all that I read, she’s doing quite well. Room to go though. There was an article today in the paper and online that said she was informed in July of the names of those who died.

    Thanks, Bev.

I hope Giffords runs and keeps the seat, although that may be selfish of me, and too much to ask of her. (If it would compromise her recovery. Or if her constituents would have to settle for less floor votes, due to health …) There is precedent for senators carrying on in poor health for years. Not so sure about the House. (And leaving aside how addled some of its able-bodied members are.)

I would suspect she would have had a good chance at Kyl’s seat, were it not for the shooting.

Wishing all a good summer Saturday.

D – Just finished watching the prologue of the Colorado Bike race. All my favorites are there. Much better TV coverage than the Tour of Utah. Beautiful country too! Will you get to see any of it live?

  10. Ok I did something today I haven’t done in over 25 years, I bought a car. This isn’t the exact car I’m buying but it’s the same year and color as the one I’m getting, it just happens to be a really good pic of what I’m getting. I’m picking it up Saturday!

  11. This is a pic of my actual car
