Seven Billion People

On 31 October 2011, the human population on earth is expected to hit the seven billion.  It’s not surprising, given that hygiene and medicine have reduced infant mortality and lengthened life span.  But it begs the question as to the carrying capacity of humans on the planet.  Exponential growth in the demands on food, water and energy may prove Malthus right.

Welcome baby 7,000,000 … how many zeroes?

    And boo to all.

(PS: do think the consequences of 7 Billion people could be scary, down the road. Bears watching and thinking more about.)

This was touching. Mona Simpson’s eulogy for her brother, Steve Jobs.

The linked Isaacson essay was interesting too, although I thought the final paragraph had a logical fallacy, given what Jobs himself observed about those he met during his first visit to India.

It was even better than pictured. (And Lady Dog-ga won big in the float contest.)

Will Herman come out smelling like a rose or will he be the flavor of the month as predicted several months ago?

    Happy Halloween.
