Romney Picks Ryan!

Today Mitt Romney will announce today his veep pick is Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan.  For weeks the pundits have asked if Romney will go boring or go bold.  Now we know.

The pick is interesting because it frames the rest of the Romney campaign around fiscal issues.  Ryan wants to cut funding for food stamps and student loans.  He wants to make Medicaid block grants.  He wants to make Medicare a voucher system.  What Newt Gingrich called right-wing social engineering.

Neither has any foreign policy experience.  Neither has much empathy for the poor or middle class.  In 2005 Ryan said: “The reason I got involved in public service, by and large, if I had to credit one thinker, one person, it would be Ayn Rand.”

Ryan has been a Washington insider for over 20 years.  Romney has wanted to be a Washington insider for over 20 years.

  1. Definitely a mini-me pick, it also shows how desperate Romney is to hold on to his base. Not much different than McCain in 2008. Gotta love when history repeats it’s self!

The name of the previous thread covers it: Curosity has landed. Ryan doesn’t seem to be the VP type. If elected IMO he will assume a Cheney role, and R will be second in command.

Let’s see — the reports of gun violence by the media is up to once a week. But it’s a right to bear arms!
