Welcome to Boehnerville

Well, the world didn’t end, but John Boehner couldn’t get enough of his caucus to vote for his plan B, so his job as speaker may end.

  1. Wayne LaPierre , total whacko, merchant of death!

  2. Brian, he was so appalling, I really wonder if he might be retiring or dialing back to “spend more time with his family” soon.

I don’t see how politicians who take money from the NRA want that as its public face.

  3. Obama to Nominate Senator John Kerry as Secretary of State, Official Says
President Obama plans to nominate Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts as secretary of state, a senior administration official said, succeeding Hillary Rodham Clinton and putting in place the first member of his second-term national security team.
The appointment of Mr. Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat and his party’s former presidential nominee in 2004, has been widely expected since last week, when Susan E. Rice, the ambassador to the United Nations, asked Mr. Obama to withdraw her candidacy for the post.

This morning I turned on the TV. It was on MSNBC and Morning Joe was on, so I my immediate reflex was to change the channel, but a segment with freshman rep Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) was on. He was one of those reps that Boehner kicked off of his committee. It was mesmerizing in how entrenched in his cluelessness he was. It even upset Scarborough. The comment after the segment was: “They complain about leadership, but you can’t lead people like this.”

Hours later we saw Wayne LaPierre blame Sandy Hook on violent videos, violent movies, the mentally ill (like him), teachers not packing, and of course Obama.

We haven’t seen such right-wing extremism since the John Birch Society in the early 60’s. Only difference is that there is no conservative leader like William F. Buckley Jr. to shut them down and drum them out.

I’m thinking once again that Obama is playing chess while his opponents are playing checkers. Guys like Boehner & Corker figured that if they game Obama what he wanted they could hold him hostage with the debt ceiling in January. If we go off the fiscal cliff, they will have to scramble to give Obama what he wants and have no leverage whatsoever to politic the debt ceiling.

Weird Wayne may have a point about the violent movies and video games. There’s a quick fix for those. Stop making them.

However, “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” he said, asking Congress to immediately appropriate the money to put a police officer in every single school in the country.

Then we will need officers at every type of public gathering, lite rail, libraries, concerts, malls, and every other place where crowds gather. Does this sound similar to certain parts of history? Yeah, people with guns are the answer to everything.

If that happens, I guess that’s definite confirmation that the repugs are in bed with Wayne and the rich.

Guns kill people, good or bad.

  5. So the NRA’s answer to 20 little 5,6 and 7 year old children is to turn our schools into armed encampments.

I say no way. The answer to this is for the NRA Board Members and their families including their children need to start burying them after someone with one of their military style assault weapons puts three or four bullets into their bodies.

I say fuck the NRA and lets start the gun control by taking these sick son of a bitches and their Fascist Nazi Handmaidens out once and for all.

Send them all straight back to their Master Satan in Hell. Put a 50 caliber round from a 1,000 yards out into their heads. FUCK THEM ALL.

    Have a great day.

  6. And that also goes to any member of Congress, Republicans and Democrats, who does not support any common sense gun regulation or control.

    Have a great day.

  7. Oh by the way, Happy Holidays if they can in fact be happy.

    Have a great day.

  8. tempebev

AP, As usual, a great reply. Love your addendum’s too. Happy Holidays to you too!

  9. AP: I think in some ways Wayne Lapierre and his, um, “inspired” performance might have made an easier path for gun safety legislation.

Because he came off as completely whacked to everyone but the paranoid owners of weapons arsenals who live in “Fear World”, and NRA members (but I repeat myself).

Who wants to live in that America? And freedom of that sort is the last thing from “free.”

Putting up a Balloon Juice thread from a few days ago by Tom Levenson, “Guns are the Enemy of Liberty.”

“An armed society may be a polite one. But it’s not one that is free. It is not one in which a civic life in any meaningful sense of the term can take place.

    Guns kill liberty.”

PS: if you click the link, were you able to see the artwork? I could not, and usually can. Not sure if it’s my computer or what.

Oh: and happy holidays and Merry Christmas present wrapping weekend.

  10. dnd: I saw Huelscamp. Morning Joe occasionally commits journalism. Public service to expose that fool.

      Sra Dog,
I think the only TV journalist is Soladad O’Brien. She channels her inner Tim Russert by asking hard questions, and when they don’t answer, says so.

  11. Have heard that Soledad is doing wonderful work. Just cannot make myself turn to CNN, alas.

  12. tempebev

    I guess he’s crazy!

  13. Now don’t get upset D, Santa doesn’t exist!

  14. Any interest in buying a bridge in Brooklyn? it’s a very nice bridge, good price.

  15. Jack Klugman, Actor of Everyman Integrity, Dies at 90

  16. Merry Christmas to all.

And happy movie and Chinese dinner day to Brian.

    What was under your trees?

    • dnd

Merry Christmas all. It’s a white Christmas in Colorado. Snowed all night.

NORAD reports that Santa delivered over 7 trillion presents. NORAD has a hotline for kids to call to ask questions about Santa. Apparently First Lady Michelle Obama took some of the calls.

First Lady Michelle Obama and First Dog Bo read ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas to kids at the Children’s National Medical Center last week.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or Happy Whatever. Going to a party tonight. All our kids and grandkids will be in next week for a co-70th birthday party for Mr. Bev and me. Ugh, have to clean the house!!

Maybe in name only. Their stomach rule the day 🙂

  19. Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, U.S. Commander in Persian Gulf War, Dies at 78
Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, who commanded the American-led forces that crushed Iraq in the 1991 Persian Gulf war and became the nation’s most acclaimed military hero since the midcentury exploits of Generals Dwight D. Eisenhower and Douglas MacArthur, died on Thursday in Tampa, Fla. He was 78.

  20. Not to nit pick D, but unless the Bushes have had a spiritual conversion they “are” Episcopalians, not “were”.

    • dnd

Brian, whenever someone says: “Not to nit pick” it means they are nitpicking. You are correct. “Were” being the past tense assumes a conversion since they were eating Chinese on Christmas. “Are” is the present tense, though it sounds awkward in that sentence. A better construction would have been “Aren’t they Episcopalians?”

ps. Not to nitpick, but “nitpick” is one word, not two. 😉

  21. Thanks for the correction, I appreciate you taking the time to point my error out to me!

  22. Boyz!

Anybody seen that new Hitchcock movie with Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren? Never seen anything Mirren wasn’t excellent in. Would be fun to see film’s conception of LA in the late 50s and early 60s, too.

Is it going to come down to 11:59 PM on 12/31/12 as I predicted, earlier, or over the cliff? Hard to imagine these are the people who were elected and act as if they’re in kindergarden.

  24. Bev: thank gerrymandering for an unrepresentative Congress. If elections were more competitive, these idiots would pay a price for the kabuki and not governing.

The Republicans should not be able to keep their offices for not even allowing votes.

  25. Happy four-day weekend to just about everybody.

We’re expecting possible light slow/sleet again today. Saw a little bit of granular snow hitting a few minutes ago; nothing now. Just cold out there.

Going to make up a pot of chili today, and have nachos tomorrow with leftovers.

  26. We got a couple of inches last night, enough to make things pretty, not enough to make life hell, perfect!

  27. tempebev

This morning our outside temp was 31.1. Our first freeze – we covered up our plants last night.

    • dnd

Well it’s 25.2 here. Warmest it’s been in quite a while. The snow we got before Christmas hasn’t had a chance to melt. Winter is only a week old and I’m sick of it…

  28. In northern Virginia, we had some big fluffy snowflakes yesterday morning, but temp above 33 so driving never dangerous. Snowstorm lasted about 2-3 hours; dusted the grass and rooftops, then disappeared. I loved driving in it, as the big flakes drifted down to meet the windshield. Neighbors out walking up and down the street.

And then — once I got the groceries put away and ready to walk in snow falling in woods myself — over! And gone from the grass in another hour.

Not Colorado. Still hope for more snow this year.

Happy holidays weekend. Having Christmas and New Year’s Day on Tuesday is an excellent strategy. Two guaranteed four-day weekends in a row.

Have stayed out of Starbucks this week (not a hardship). Not going to let those fools write “come together” on a coffee cup for me.
