And now there are Fourteen

Today Chris Christie entered the race for president, which officially ups the number of Republicans running to 14.  The right-wing pundits claim this is a good thing.  They have a strong bench.  This isn’t the 2012 clown car.

Wrong on both counts.  The only reason so many people run is because they think: “These are a bunch of Bozos.  I can beat them.”  All the governors running have low approval ratings in their own states.  Bobby Jindal thinks we should get rid of the Supreme Court.  And Donald Trump…

The photo is of Mt. Evans, a fourteener (4,350m) viewed from Denver.  Highest paved road in North America.  You can drive right up.  Well, you can’t now.  Road damage from all the snow last winter.  Perfect for Republicans.

Anywho, Mt. Evans was named for Gov. John Evans, second governor of the Colorado Territory.  Gov. Evans, a wealthy Republican, was forced to resign for his involvement in the Sand Creek Massacre.

D – Thank you for providing beautiful photos. The landscapes are very cooling and calming. Regarding the number of candidates: I can’t wait to see how they determine who gets on the TV debates. Should be some loud squawking from some of them.

  2. Loving the landscape pics. Way more than Chris Christie.

The NY Times welcoming Christie to the race: Gov. Chris Christie’s Phony Truth-Telling.

Which played off article by NJ editor Tom Moran, of the Newark Star-Ledger: After 14 years of watching Christie, a warning: He lies.

Moran: “My testimony amounts to a warning: Don’t believe a word the man says.

If you have the stomach for it, this column offers some greatest hits in Christie’s catalog of lies.

Don’t misunderstand me. They all lie, and I get that. But Christie does it with such audacity, and such frequency, that he stands out.

He’s been lying on steroids lately….”

Moran ends his article (after numerous examples of what Christie said or says, vs. the record) with “And that’s my warning to America. When Christie picks up the microphone, he speaks so clearly and forcefully that you assume genuine conviction is behind it. [dog: it sure seems to fool the national political press and give Chris Matthews thrills]

Be careful, though. It’s a kind of spell.

He is a remarkable talent with a silver tongue. But if you look closely, you can see that it is forked like a serpent’s.”

Christie and Jindal. Two governors who could not get re-elected in their own states. And now they want to go national.

  3. Just when you think the GOP clown car can’t get anymore disgusting. It’s hard to decide who is more gross, Trump or Christie.

I think Trump is getting pay back. Macy’s is tossing his men’s line, NBC dumped him. Mexico isn’t sending a beauty to the Miss Universe pageant. I’m sure this won’t bother his bottom line. If the only reason he’s running for POTUS if for publicity, he’s certainly getting some coverage. He doesn’t seem to be courting the Latino vote.

Christie is a blow fish – he and donald have that in common. Realistically, it is sad that the 14 or 16, or how many are running represents the best the Reps have to offer. However, I’m not crying about it. That Clown Car better have a strong trailer hitch to pull the latest candidate.

Since I have been bitching about AZ weather, how are the rest of you doing? Hot? Sweltering? Storms?

  5. Stereotype shot to hell indeed 🙂

And another one joins the crowd – Dem this time. Opinions on Jim Webb?

  7. He hearkens to the time of the Reagan Democrat, that’s an oxymoron in my book.

  8. Bev: I don’t know who Webb’s constituency would be. After years of President Obama, Webb would seem to be a throw-back. I think we need to move forward, and am thrilled to see Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren out there, speaking about the actual (vs. imaginary) issues important to voters.

  9. RE weather: DC is gorgeous today, but we’ve had two powerful thunderstorms through in past 2 weeks. One this week sent the Girl Scouts camping overnight on the White House lawn scurrying into an office building conference room. Lightning storm and high winds. Not so bad in my area (although an extraordinary lightshow — woke me up), but hearing it was wild in DC.

WaPost reports it was a powerful storm second only to the derecho a few years ago that knocked out trees and some powerlines for a week.

  10. Happy 4th, y’all. Enjoy.

Dog – the Girl Scouts made our news. I saw them camped out on the floor.
I read somewhere that Bernie has already picked his cabinet. This is going to be a __________ (fill in the words) campaign.

    Still no word from AP?

  12. I’m so proud of the Greeks. They saw through the squid ink.

AP: sending you thoughts and prayers (OK, secular prayers). Be well. Think of you often, and hope you will pop in when you feel up to it. (Chemo and radiation can exhaust one.)

Going to see Bernie Sanders in Arlington on Thursday night. Sanity appeals.

Bev: hmmm. Your fill in the blank. This is going to be a ___ campaign.:

** sane (on the Democrats’ side)

    ** can’t lose

    ** too f*cking long

  13. Hey everyone. Hey AP, we’re all sending good thoughts your way, hope we hear from you real soon.

  14. tempebev

Dog – all of the above. Tell us all about Bernie when you see him.

    • dnd

I’m hoping the reason we haven’t heard from AP lately is because he’s busy working on Bernie Sander’s campaign.

  15. tempebev

Crossing my fingers that’s where AP has been.

ARe you ready for Pluto on July 14?

  17. At home today so I can study for my cert exam on Friday, MSNBC on in the background, damn between United and NYSE not technology’s best day!

  18. tempebev

I took the CERT course a few years ago through the local fire dept. I don’t know if it’s the same class nationwide, but I had fun putting out fires, learning out to build a crib, and learning about noxious chemicals. Ended up with a BIG notebook and hard hat.

  19. haha, I guess I should have been more clear, I just assume everyone speaks geek, I’m taking the final exam to get my software certification for work, it’s a certification as a surgical documentation analyst. But good for you Bev, I bet you look great in your hard hat. Any pics?
