Marijuana Advocates Point to Signs of Change

“It is the biggest moment yet,” said Ethan Nadelmann, the founder and executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance in Washington, who cited several national polls showing growing support for legalization. “There’s a sense that the notion of legalizing marijuana is starting to cross the fringes into mainstream debate.”

"I have come to believe that this is a question of fairness and of equal protection under the law and that a civil union is not equal to civil marriage," said Baldacci, a Democrat.

Health care happening

“OK, it looks as if major health care reform is actually going to happen. Democrats have agreed that if Republicans try to block reform in the Senate, they will use the reconciliation process to bypass a filibuster. “

Ok, those are my three favorite issues where it looks like serious progress is being made now that the Dems have been returned to power.  Now tell me yours.

  1. With Gay Issues in View, Obama Is Pressed to Engage

  2. After Party Switch, a Senator’s Confused Alliances

And the comment about Minnesota, where Democrats need Al Franken to become their crucial 60th vote in the Senate, prompted the majority leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, to confront Mr. Specter on the Senate floor.

“Arlen,” Mr. Reid said in his trademark low-volume growl, “What’s going on here?”

boy, if all that can happen, it will truly be heroic. I been doing socialized medicine for about 6 years now and sometimes you have to wait but never longer than about 4 hours. But that is because the VA gets overwhelmed a bit.

Someone said that Gays should be allowed to be married. Why should straight people be the only ones miserable? Gay and Lesbians pose no threat to me or my marriage.

I don’t smoke pot anymore but I don’t smoke anything anymore. The only thing I have against pot is that I could be thrown in jail if caught with it in my possession. If it were legal, I might start smoking it again. Don’t know though. I could now but I am still not confident about my ability to remain tobacco free.

Happy Odd Day. Date with three consecutive odd numbers.

  6. dnd I think we’re going to see the repugs fight cap and trade even more ferociously than they are going to fight national health.

well, I will be on the road again this weekend. The Hoot and Doot show. We are going to Abilene for several gigs at the The Western Heritage Classic. This is their 25th Anniversary. Will have a ranch rodeo (similar to a regular rodeo but the events more closely resemble day to day ranch work) a horse show and a cowboy poetry gathering.

so I will be out of pocket later today thru Sunday afternoon.

  8. Have a great time trout-boy!

Have fun, Doots! I’ll be heading out tomorrow, too. Going camping in Canada with my grandson’s Boy Scout troop. I’m the cook. Actually, I supervise the boy’s cooking. 😉

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama asked Congress on Thursday to eliminate or trim 121 federal programs for a savings of $17 billion in the coming budget year.

Republicans immediately denounced his proposed reductions as too small. “The resulting savings are relatively minor compared with the government’s fiscal woes,” said House Republican Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio.

My thoughts are: it’s a start. To quote the late, great Everett Dirkson: “A billion dollars here, a billion dollars there, pretty soon you’re talking real money.”

Here’s an idea for House Republicans who say it’s not enough: cut all the programs that benefit their districts. 😉

Andrew Sullivan is very taken with a “Play him off, Keyboard Cat” site. He and his colleagues created their own video.

If you can sit through the first 35 or so seconds of a Sarah Palin word cloud (in response to a Katie Couric question), the finish is worth it.

joe the Frickin’ Plumber is quitting the GOP and Elizabeth Hasslebeck has publicly denounced Joe the Frickin’ Plumber over his “queer” comments. Can the locus be far away? could this be the end of the world?

Sec. Salazar will open the crown of the Statue of Liberty on July 4th.

The French gave us the statue. They’re socialist. So clearly Obama is a socialist. 😉

  22. did you see Salazar on the Daily Show last night d?
