Joannie Rochette

My Olympic hero in the 2010 games in Vancouver is Canada’s Joannie Rochette.  The young 24 year old lost her mother to a heart attack earlier in the week and went on to skate masterfully Tuesday in the women’s short program despite her grief.

I don’t know anything about figure skating.  The only winter Olympic events I’m interested in are alpine ski racing, hockey and the curling.  But I do know something about what makes a true champion.  Every successful person I know has told me the same thing:  it’s not your successes that make you, it’s how you respond when life knocks you down.

By that measure, Ms Rochette is a true champion.

LOL@dnd. I’ve been watching all day. Obama is doing a masterful job. The repugs are acting like spoiled brats trying to get their own way. McInsane looked especially childish and petulant. It was good to see Obama smack him down.

Many apologies for being a nitpicker, enjoy your blog but it drives me to distraction that Gallup is misspelled in your sidebar. Been hoping somebody would notice and fix it. Sorry for pestering you.

Welcome, Jim. We don’t mind a bit of nitpicking. And you’re not pestering us. Feel free to join in any time. 🙂

  5. Today may end up being Obama’s finest hour, this summit is proving to be a master political stroke.

  6. nannymm

It sure is. The repugs have one theme: scrap this bill and start over. In other words: KILL THE BILL! That’s all they really want. Well, they aren’t going to win this one. We’ve waited long enough. It’s time to tell them to get the hell out of the way and pass a Democratic bill NOW!!!

There’s your representative, Brian. He’s nailing it!

  8. Newsmax’s spin on today’s events, the headline cracks me up!

Brian it’s good to see that you’re up and blogging today. Chicken soup was the suggestion and oh yes… lots of soft cushions help too.

  12. Well actually I ordered 4 quarts of won ton. And for dinner veggies with tofo.

  13. Oh yeah, Happy Bday Mad! Many more.

  14. MadMustard

…well, I’ll bet won ton works too… maybe not for some purists and grandmas out there. It’s good to see that you’re In good spirits.

Thanks for the B’day wishes, guys… It’s been a great one. I don’t know how many more are feasible but I do know they will have to pull me away, kicking and screaming!

This life has been a great ride.

    Happy Birthday, Mad.

For the record, won ton is A-OK with this grandma.

  19. First of all I’m glad to see that Brian’s surgery went well and that he’s back home.

Secondly I want to apologize to all of you that I did not wish a Happy Birthday too these last few weeks.

And Happy Birthday to you to Mad.

Well I’m going to go see what’s going on at he who can not be named then I’m off to watch K.O. on MSNBC’s Countdown on the web followed by Rachel Maddow.

    Take care and …

    God Bless.

  20. And btw thanks to everyone for the well wishes. Aren’t you a friendly bunch today! LOL

  21. eprof2

Glad you’re back among the living, Brian. Happy Birthday, Mad. Where was C-SPAN today? They didn’t cover the HC Summit live at all.

  22. TempeBev

Glad you survived the surgery – Happy Birthday to Mad. It’s nice to celebrate BD’s with a fellow pisces (24 & 25).

Watched the summit and thought the repugs looked arrogant and like an old boys club-which of course they are. The dems will have to go it alone – hope they can get enough votes. Have a feeling they may not because some of them are such nambie-pambie’s.
