Global Warming, What Can I Do? ~ Unlikely Burrito

polarb

I saw this polar bear strolling on thin ice, and it left me to wonder, “What can a Burrito like me do to stop global warming?”

First: understand the problem: There are numerous articles linked from this page that offer a wealth of information. http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/news/science/topics/globalwarming/index.html (be sure to look at the North Pole retreating ice graphic about half way down the page)

Second: simple lifestyle adjustments:

  • Switch motors = bike, walk, carpool, combine trips, public transportation
  • Eat Greener = eat less meat and dairy
  • Smarter homes = lower your thermostat, use new fluorescent bulbs,
  • unplug tvs, chargers and computers

Third: get involved!

Please take a moment to visit http://www.stopglobalwarming.org

At http://www.stopglobalwarming.org/sgw_actionitems.asp you can join over one million other supporters to demand our leaders to freeze and reduce carbon dioxide emissions now. Also on this page you will see over 30 relatively easy and quick methods for you to “individually” make a difference. I know, not everyone can make every change listed, but real change comes from each individual action. Be aware of global warming in your daily life and express your concerns to your friends and family. “We are all contributors to global warming and we all need to be part of the solution.”

You can also get involved locally by encouraging your neighbors, city, schools and other organizations to think about the global warming problem with each decision they make. Encourage recycling, bike paths, ride share, eliminating plastic bags and less wasteful use of energy in heating and lighting. The list goes on and on but in reality there is no time to waste. Our planet needs your help.

  1. I wonder if Palin has a recipe for polar bear chili.

  2. Hi gang.

Sorry for not posting on topic, however the other day I left a comment on TM about maybe Cheney had something to do with the death of Ranger Pat Tillman.

Today I see that Allen Roland put up a post on the same topic. Interesting read if anyone is interested.

See if I can make it back later.

Here’s one way to save the planet: Stop enabling Brian’s obsessive and insulting email blasts that undermine the credibility of other posters here.

  4. AP most people here no longer read Trail Mush, glad you posted the link here.

  5. Nothing on any of the MSM sites about that AP, big and great news if it’s true!

  6. AP are sure this isn’t an April Fools prank, did you read the original post on Kos?

“DSCC Chairman Charles Schumer publicly accepted Coleman’s concession for Senate Democrats. “I never fucking thought that idiot would concede,” Schumer said, “but he did.”

RNC Chairman Michael Steele hailed the concession as a victory for the GOP. “This opens up a fresh new Senate seat for us to target in 2014,” Steele said.”

Just found out it was a April Fools joke. Guess I got took.

Oh well maybe better days are ahead.

Time for the sack. Take care and…

    God Bless.

  8. It’s a good one AP, I can’t blame you for wanting it to be true! Maybe Coleman will get the hint, unlikely, but we can hope!

  9. Good morning everyone!

AP, April Fools day always gets me one way or another…. 😉 and like Brain, I am glad you posted here, don’t read the other, it’s not relative anymore.

I am writing a letter to our local paper and my city council to proposed banning plastic bags. It’s a small step, but one I think everyone can accomplish without much effort.

Good morning Sra Burrito. Great post.

Now don’t get me started on wind power 😉

  12. Hey everyone….want to give you guys a heads up….One of my favorite causes is TOMS Shoes, and the company is being highlighted on CNBC tonight Thursday, April 2nd 9p | 1a ET.

    Inquiring minds want to know…

    Good Morning!
Very useful post, UB. The links are terrific. I was happy to see that I am already doing many of the things recommended. But, of course, I can still do better….

  15. Lots of Broadway show tunes dnd

  16. dnd

Show tunes? You mean the soundtrack from “The Blues Brothers” movie?

  17. Yo nanny, where you been? inquiring minds want to know!

Was the Blue Brothers on Bway?

  19. dnd

Off Broadway. The Palace Hotel Ballroom. Route 16. Lake Wazzapamani.

  20. We here in the apple call that off-off-off Bway.

  21. I heard there was a little JayZ on the ipod too…. rumor has it the Queen is quite inspired by the American hip hop scene.

I’ve been doing spring cleaning, Brian. This darned house is way too big and takes forever to get through. At the rate I’m going it’s going to take a month. But I thought I’d stop by for a few minutes before I head out to do some shopping.

  23. shopping? Are you going out to get a just in time bday president for someone we both know and love?

  24. heading to the dog park…..it may be the warmest day of the year thus far 57…right now…

    enjoy!

“Now don’t get me started on wind power ;)”

what’s wrong with wind power? We here at the Fort have been under a high wind alert for the last week. Much higher than usual. Wish I had a windmill. The powers that be have made them illegal in the city limits because they make too much noise.

  26. nannymm

That’s tomorrow, Brian. Today I need bins to organize my storage room. 😉

  27. nannymm

We have several large wind farms up here. I’m all for them. They’re much better than buying oil from the middle east.

  28. dnd

Nuthin’ wrong with wind power Doots. Remember I’m the guy who picked T. Boone Pickins to be Sec. of Energy. 😉

  29. horsedooty

well, I wouldn’t go that far with T. Boone by offering him the Sec of Energy but I would let him by lunch or dinner. Hummm, I wonder if he knows he has a long lost cuz residing here in Ft Worth? Wonder if it is too late to get in the will?

    Sra Burrito,
Wind turbines and electric cars. Great manufacturing base.

Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II was here recently for the groundbreaking of a new Vestas plant. Vestas, based in Denmark, makes wind turbines.

  51. I changed my pic, not sure what you mean ub

  52. my puter shows the old one…must be my cache…saw the new one at work…it looked good.

  53. I saw that article about Vestas, I would like to see American companies doing that kind of thing.

  54. yeah, clear you cache, I had the same problem when I changed it.

  55. there you are, looks good….

wow when the Queen touches you….that’s awesome….more people like the Obamas should go into politics…..

  56. dnd

“I saw that article about Vestas, I would like to see American companies doing that kind of thing.”

    Two words: General Electric.

  57. Is GE actively in that market? ….because if they are, I might have to peek at their stock price.

  58. dnd

    http://www.gepower.com/businesses/ge_wind_energy/en/index.htm

I don’t think this will drive their stock. GE is so huge they are basically a proxy for the S&P 500.

They are talking about putting wind turbines out in Lake Erie…..you would think that they might look at the lake, first in foremost, as a fresh water source and clean it up…….after all most reports say that fresh water is the oil of tomorrow.

  62. dnd

If you believe in America, GE is a good stock to own.

    I’d prefer BRKb.

  63. I love that photo!…..like they say a picture speaks a million words, and the only thing better than a photo is actually being there.

  64. ……or is it a billion words, thousands words , or a trillion words…I have lost count….. 😉

  67. lol the burning river, no wonder when I was in grade school we we doing reports on pollution!!!!and gas shortages and gas lines…..that is really at the core of what “ticks” me off regarding global warming….we knew we were screwing up 40 freaking years ago!!!!

My mother still has my report, I think I got an “A”….lol

  68. chocolate pie is fattening…especially if you don’t share.

  69. It’s my bday present to myself, shoot me for getting a head start!

  70. when is the day actually day? ……… BANG!

  71. dnd

    Sra Burrito,
40 years ago there was concern about global cooling. Fortunately, science and technology has made significant advances in the last 40 years 😉

I do remember President Carter reacting to the OPEC oil embargo. Man, did we blow that opportunity to get off oil. Lets hope we’ve learned.

  72. if gas isn’t 4.00 per gallon , people will not change……even the small cars you see, many times their mileage is the same as a bigger car….

I want a car that can hold my dogs and other time hold 5 people – and get 30 + city.

I have thought for years that a smart car companies would make cars that fit life-styles…vertical marketed cars. You camp this, dog this, you travel this….you commute this, you have toddlers this, you want to pick up chicks this…and so on…..the old “fill the need” concept….how foreign is this from their thinking???

  73. at the stroke of midnight I’ll be 51, someone shoot before then, please.

  74. dnd

  76. awe…I didn’t know it was so soon….My mother is 82, and she would trade places with you in a nano-second.

You made it another year…that’s a good thing! no one is going to shoot you….it’s only a number…..and this is the lowest it will ever be from this point forward….so enjoy!

yes dnd it’s fascinating how taken the queen is with the first lady. The queen as been at this a long time, and I think she really appreciated the first lady’s sincerity. I love the queen saying her to “now that we’ve met I hope you’ll keep in touch”.

  87. dnd, I think I would have liked your Dad. 🙂

  88. yes Brian, man-years are kinder than woman- years….men can look great as long as they are not drooling…..as they say, ” you have that going for you.”
