Admiral Says Oil Pipe Is Cut, a Key Step in Halting Leak

Now that the damaged riser pipe is severed close to the
stricken BP well in the Gulf of Mexico, engineers can try
placing a cap to catch the leaking oil, Adm. Thad Allen told
reporters during a briefing in Metairie, La., on Thursday.

    I brought this forward….

“In her latest note on Facebook, Sarah Palin is blaming “extreme ‘environmentalists’” for causing the gulf oil disaster that has been unfolding for over a month.”

    http://tinyurl.com/26xtptt

When will she ever shut up?

    • dnd

I wonder how Sarah Palin would feel about an oil spill on the beach of her lakeside home’s “swimming hole.”

For you Alan Grayson fans, his performance on the Stephanie Miller show this morning was priceless. In the Face the Grayson segment, where he takes calls, he eviscerated the last caller, a right-wing loony. If you missed it, check out stephaniemiller.com later today to hear it.

I’m assuming that the person(s) who write Palin’s notes on Facebook doesn’t know that they’ve been drilling offshore, globally, for four decades. They don’t do it because of the “extreme environmentalists,” they do it because that’s where the easy, plentiful oil is. It’s a business decision. Or maybe her authors do understand this, but it’s irrelevant to getting her false meme out to her clueless fan base.

  3. “When will she ever shut up?”

    Not soon enough!

  4. She’s probably try to skim it off and sell it! Swimming hole indeed.

  5. “truthiness” is not high on their list.

“Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal wrote President Obama a letter on Wednesday criticizing his decision to implement a temporary moratorium of deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. ”

He and Sarah should hook up.

    UB,

Sarah is not comfortable around darker skinned people like Gov Bobby.

Rather than singing “Michelle” last night to the first family, perhaps Sir Paul should have sung Glass Onion: “Fixing a hole in the ocean, trying to make a dove-tail joint”

  9. TempeBev

This may be a little rough on some and others may find it hysterical. I like it.

“Michelle my bell”….when I was younger I use to pretend to name my daughter Michelle just because of that song….

My friend in Florida says the oil beads have hit their beaches.

  13. ub

Dooty, you mean that Sarah doesn’t think Bobby is dark enough?

  14. I wonder what song your mom was listening to when they picked your name ub?

    *runs and hides*

  15. ub

and you should run and hide! laughing… you are funny, I’ll say that

I actually was named after, get this, my Grand-Father. It’s a very old English name…. Always hated the first name but liked the second one just fine……

    • dnd

Sra Burrito, your grand-father was named “Burrito?” I did not know that was a very old English name. You learn a lot on this blog.

  16. I was named after a great uncle who committed suicide shortly before I was born.

“Dooty, you mean that Sarah doesn’t think Bobby is dark enough?”

no, that’s not what I wrote. Remember her father saying the reason she left college in Hawaii was because she was not comfortable around dark complected (I am assuming native Hawaiians) people and Asians.

U.S. Payrolls Grew by 431,000 in May; Jobless Rate Fell to 9.7%

Employers added 431,000 nonfarm jobs nationwide in May, the
biggest increase in a single month since the recession, the
Labor Department said Friday. But the bulk of the growth was
in government jobs, driven by hiring for the Census, and
    private-sector job growth was weak.

The unemployment rate fell to 9.7 percent nationwide, from
9.9 percent in April, the department said.

The figures for May represented the fifth consecutive month
that payrolls have risen, but fell below analysts’
expectations that 540,000 jobs would be added to the economy.

According to the survey, 74% of Tea Party supporters say they agree with the following statement: “While equal opportunity for blacks and minorities to succeed is important, it’s not really the government’s job to guarantee it.”

Fifty-two percent of respondents also said that “compared to the size of their group, lesbians and gays have too much political power.”

    Good afternoon all.

Yosemite was beyond awesome. If it’s not on your bucket list, it belongs there.

Will do a post on my first ever visit soon.

Did not see any bears, animal or human.

  23. dog's eye view

In the meantime, a great cartoon from today’s dead tree LA Times:

    http://blog.cagle.com/tag/obama-cinderella/

  24. dog's eye view

There were allegedly bears all through the park, and we had to stash everything: peppermints from the car, toothpaste — in a bear-safe locker.

Plus lots of video footage at checkout of bears working their magic on an SUV, peeling through to peel out with whatever they found.

The American I thought most of in Yosemite?

    Stephen Colbert

Does seeing loadsa squirrels count for anything?

  25. dog's eye view

    Not Teddy Roosevelt.

    I know.

But the bear threat was so imminent.

There were road signs with red bears to signify a bear killed by a car in 2010.

Although I think it’s code for that commie Obama planning to take over the national parks.

    Oh. Wait …

    • dnd

      dog,
If you want to see something very different than Yosemite, visit the Pawnee National Grasslands. Just as awesome, but very, very different. And no bears 😉

For the Backchannel “all the good ones are taken (*snort*)” file:

Rush Limbaugh is marrying some lucky gal this very weekend.

    The fourth soon-to-be-ex Mrs. Limbaugh.

A descendant of John Adams, allegedly.

  27. ub

you guys make me laugh….playing the tables….friday downer for the wealthy….what a pity.

    peace to all,
Dog super enjoy it out there – lucky you!

  28. dog's eye view

Burrito: lovely to see you. Read back and saw a Kathy posting too. Wonderful surprise.

Back from Yosemite, but definitely visiting again.

Hope your early unofficial summer is off to a good start too.

“Rush Limbaugh is marrying some lucky gal this very weekend.”

I don’t know what in the world you think “lucky ” means….. 😛

Sydney Opera House goes to the dogs.

Laurie Andersen debuts 20-minute concert for dogs (and their humans).

” … Anderson – who often plays music for her rat terrier Lollabelle – said the idea originated during a chat with cellist Yo-Yo Ma while the two were waiting backstage at a graduation ceremony.

“We thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if you’re playing a concert and you look out and everyone’s a dog?'” Anderson said. “So I thought if I ever get a chance to do that, I’m gonna do it. And today was it. So this is like a highlight of my life.”

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/05/AR2010060500382.html?hpid=entnews

Laurie Anderson is married to Lou Reed. How cool.
